Tried grow bags. Worked great by had to water everyday in the summer.

Tried growing in coco with hydro nutrients. That too worked well, but had to mix and pH everyday.

Got old….. last year went back to my 16’ x 12’ plot built with old hemlock, 2 x 10’s
Um depends on your nutrient reserve , I had 2x 250L blue plastic drums that gravity feed thru the media into 2 more at the bottom . When the top ones were nearly empty it turned on a bilge pump in the bottom ones that then pumped back up to the top untill nearly empty. I had the drain in the media tubes so that there was always 1-2" of nutrient in there at all times . Took about 4 hours to cycle vai a ball valve ( use plastic ) that I could open up to speed things up a bit on hot days .

What is the benefit of a raised garden if you still have to bend over and reach down below your knees? Or actually get on your knees.

If you are looking for good barrels, search out the food processing plants.
They have barrels that contained corn starch, soybean oil, corn oil, vinegar, tomato paste, molasses, maple syrup, etc.

Not everyone has dirt suitable for farming. Getting up and down, if able, also helps a person stay active and limber.

.
I have nothing but clay. I actually had raised beds made with lumber, but every year I need to screw around with the soil, and the weeds are relentless. Never mind the damn rabbits. Also hoping that ground dwelling insects will be easier to control

Egg shells scattered in the garden help keep the rabbits out. They don’t seem to like walking on them.

I have used grow bags also, and my experience matched yours. They work great, especially because the plants don’t tend to get root bound the way they do in hard containers, but they have to be watered all the time.

Ha ,last time I used grow bags it was a 60 kg coal sack filled with super dirt , used to scramble/crawl into the middle of a big gorse ( gorse is the poxiest prickliest bush ever)bush and put the bag over a main branch so as to pin it to the ground and open a space in the middle of the bush . Then stomp in the middle of the bag to make a depression that would hold water ,cut a cross in the bottom and put the plants in that . I have to get in there every few days to water the bags . Id have maybe 20 of them out on the river bed .........worked perfectly .......untill the cops started using choppers to search for them 😆. Me and the dog , who wouldnt stop growling and nearly got us busted , got pinned down in such a bush while the cops walked up and down the river bed looking for "patches "
Good times 😁😁
