I'm not doubting that the polarity exists, it's why. Fuses don't have that. My understanding is that breakers break either because a bimetallic strip heats and deforms breaking the connection or with an electromagnet that breaks when enough current is applied to the magnet to trip it (not sure how prevalent that is in a marine environment). In either case conceptually it doesn't make sense to me why it matters which wire is on which side of the circuit. I had a fuse on my lift that didn't blow until after the housing had melted some. Looking for a better solution so have been thinking about breakers more than normal I guessNotice the two colors of lugs on the small breakers.
The copper lug is the batt connection
