Thinking about selling my 90hp 1986 Mercury inline 6

Dealer friend said---" I love the new 4 strokes "---Folks make regular appointments for service.-----Don't need a super mechanic to change oil / filters / plugs.-----All good $$$ that 2 strokes never brought to the shop.

Neighbor took his 4 yr old four stroke outboard at the end of last season for a tuneup so he would be ready to go this season. Oil change, filter, plugs, lower unit change etc.....typical motor service....cost him almost a thousand dollars ! New motors are expensive to start and keep on being expensive after you own them.....could have done a number of 2 strokes for that price!
Gotta save a lot of fuel to recoup that.....

I have had enough of carburetors constantly needing service. I just finished rebuilding 3 for the inline, and I have the 20 hp Johnson that I replaced with the 20 hp 4 st. that I'm about to rebuild as well before I sell it. Every time I went to trailer the boat that 2 str would die and leave me scrambling to get the boat on the trailer while everyone was watching the show. Not to mention the rainbow colored water that the motor makes when running. I will take the 4 str anytime. What little time I have left on this earth will not be fighting with a 2 str, but enjoying a motor that I can put in almost every lake, trouble free. Well, for the most part. I'm 70 now so I look for peace and enjoyment.

I would rather own an Engine with a Carb, than one with the Impossible to troubleshoot, adjust, or repair Fuel Injection

I get that your past faffing about with carbs but they shouldn't be "constantly needing service" as long as they are not worn out, and are being fed good clean fuel . A lot of ignition issues are blamed on carbs ( and vice versa ).

Haven't had a carb issue in 20 years and I gave lots of toys. A simple fuel stabilizer removes most all carb issues or your buying bad fuel. People don't realize how much of our fuel we buy is contaminated to begin with.
Proper maintenance solves most issues, carb kits are cheap when compared to a fuel injection repair.
