While this may be the wrong spot to thanks Clams Canino ..... I feel he deserves praise anywhere it can be written. He is clearly a mechanical encyclopedia of information, complete with a built in keyboard and desire to chat about old motors.

Thumb-up to Clams Canino .... a superb resource here at iboats.

Thanks to all on this site, I have learned more from this site than could ever be put in any manual. I have my manuals, but this site puts everything in real terms. Keep up the good work.
Paul

Re: Thanks for the help.

I want to thank all the people who have offered their input, advice, knowledge and expertise.I believe that owning an engine specific manual is imperitave if one attempts to do they're own outboard repairs. Many times a manual doesn't give reasons why something works,or,doesn't work.Manuals don't have shortcuts and are very impersonal.Troubleshooting and diagnosis can be difficult for alot of us even with the proper literature. Most of us know enough about our car motors and lawnmowers to keep those running and save a few bucks, but I think if you read alot of these posts, most of the folks who post questions here(along with the general population) are realativley new and/or,inexperienced with outboard repair.A service manual is the front door, this board and the techs and mechanics who answer our questions are the Lords of the Manor. You take the mystery out of these beasts.Sincere thanks to,Captain Rodbolt,Master Joe Reeves,Paul Moir,OBJ, Pilot JB,who keeps the vessel on an even keel,Ledgefinder,DHP Marine,Bill Kelly, a Master with a great site and prompt shipping and anyone else who takes the time to post selflessley to answer,or reassure us about our outboard dilemas.God Speed.

Re: Thanks for the help.

Thanks to all that responded to my question regarding reconnecting a shift linkage on a 2000 90 hp Johnson. Even with the shop manual, the advice here saved me many hours of frustration....

Re: Thanks for the help.

I have received advice/recommendations from so many that it is not possible to name them. I guess when you have two POS 200 hp evinrudes it requires a lot of help to get them going and there was never a lack of intelligent response to get them going.

I always try to acknowledge help when I receive it on the same post that I was asking for help on.

In response to your inquiry I think a thanks column would be a good idea.

My thanks as well, especially JB and DHadley. I inadvertantly learned who gives good information vs. goofy opinions......and I'll never start another oil thread!!

 ;)

I, too, want to thank dhadley and the others who helped me find a particularly troublesome problem with a bad starter. It was not the starter after all...the bushing on the top of the shaft was wallowed out.

Also, thanks to those who helped me find and fix the problems with my leaking OMC carbs!

Great board!

Re: Thanks for the help.

I'm new to this place, but have gotten excellent answers to the first question I posted. It's a wonderful thing when so many good folks are willing to offer assistance to even newcomers.

I've also found a lot of information that was useful to me with my ancient RD-20 Johnson, by searching through messages related to it.

I wish I could be of more assistance to others here. Perhaps as I work on this outboard, I'll learn enough to answer a question or two.

Thanks to all who spend their time to help others!

Thanks to all who helped in the rebuild of my motor. I saved a ton of money and gained and experience my son & I will not soon forget. It just goes to show you, how no matter how much technology advances, the wise, experienced mechanic will always be needed! :)

Re: Thanks for the help.

This site is PRICELESS. I would never leave home without it. The people that have answered my questions are GEMS in a world of driveway stones. There is no way I could possibly pay for the advise and expert help I have received on here. If this site where to go down there would be 1'000's of people scratching there watches and winding there heads if you know what I mean. I personally extend my help to do whatever is necessary to keep this site alive. Have a drink on me or the whole bottle and my hats off to ya. KEEP UP THE EXCELLANT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!
