New to the forum, but this place is alot more helpful than the manuals available. All the moderators seem to be very knowledable and helpful. Thanks

Re: Thanks for the help.

Have an '88 Evinrude 40 Hp. Sat for over 4 years.

Thanks to this forum:

Carbs cleaned and rebuilt.
Went VRO-less (three wire to conventional).
Powerpack and new coils installed.
Water pump installed.
Compression tests at 145 both cylinders.
Changed prop pitch.

the motor runs like a scalded cat!!

Thank you gentlemen. You cannot find the valuable real-life information found in this forum anywhere else. Shoot, it would have been a 3 1/2 week wait and several hundred dollars at the local marine wrench shop. Instead, I learned the motor, and will be able to fix whatever else goes wrong. Thanks, Iboats, for hosting this forum.

With the help of you all I have repaired a fire damaged outboard. The experts here are top notch. The advice they offer is keen. It is very unique to have such access to such sharp minds.

Re: Thanks for the help.

Iboats has saved me TONS of money and/or TONS of time trying to fix my outboards moyself. A special thanx goes to DHADLEY , OBJ, CATransplant, and J.B., for not only helping me directly, but for helping others that experienced similar problems as me and I was able to read their threads and fix my motor. The only reason I still have the internet is because of iboats, I don't use my computer for much else anymore.

THANX GUYS!!!!

Re: Thanks for the help.

Just wanted to add a big thanks to Paul Moir who has given me great feedback and helped us feel like we could actually accomplish some repairs on our motors! If it wasn't for his advice, I am sure we would have given up - now we actually know quite a bit about our motors. Well, at least enough to know when we need to ask....Thanks Paul!! AndieMarie
