I know this reply is 16 years in the making, but we have the same boat (with the same issue) and discovered the a few of the (Rochester) carbs ventry ports were plugged. Use a torch file or small stiff wire with carb cleaner and work it through. You'll know. Ran like a champ after. Good luck if...
To anyone experienced with older jet skis I have a 'Hurricane 700' with a fuel delivery issue. Spark is present and compression good. I also understand the direct injection using air pulses from the crankcase to work the pump diaphragms, but would like to start my troubleshooting at the tank. I...
Thanks, harringtondav. Mineral spirits sounds perfect. I wanted to clean the old, sticky grease out with low detergent and couldn't think of any. Was going to follow up with this penetrating grease after. Did some research and it seems to be a good choice - or is there another you would suggest...
Don't want to overthink this but need to clean and relube steering cable on the Bayliner. The big question is; do I need to remove it?
Guessing yes, as removing the old and tacky grease would need to thin it first.
My other question is; would this light penetrating grease do the trick?
As stated, fuel pressure is present but the solenoid will not open. When priming the bulb it gets hard as a rock. So much I have relieve it with the red level on the solenoid. It's a friends craft and going to check the white wire for switched 12v later today. If power is present it must either...
You're spot on '88 Capri.' It was a float height issue, a very fine adjustment making all the difference! With all three issues (spark, carb and charging) now solved I needed to hear her growl like a sexy cat. Clearing the channel toward open water something was shaking; It was me. From pure...
Have an gas issue with my '89 Bayliner 2.3L. Not only is it bogging on power up but (in idle) fuel is also fast dripping into the throttle chamber from the ventry ports. Research with YouTube and 'Mikes Carburetors' suggest it could either be a stuck open float or the spring loaded ball bearing...
Had this issue. Turned out 2 of 4 ventry ports on the Rochester carb were blocked. Ran great while going but wouldn't idle properly. Used torch files with a cleaner to unblock ports and worked like a charm. Hope it works out for you.
I like NGK 2238 in plugs. Those I can get. Sierra has zero availability and Napa can get points, condenser through Blue Streak but said for cap and rotor would have to go automotive (Pinto, Ranger) to match up with the Mallory distributor... Will be tricky finding supplier here in Canada. Thanks...
Appreciate your feedback 440roadrunner. It is a points system. To mention; I previously had numbered the distributor cap (as I have zero memory) so when lining up TDC mark with the (harmonic balancer) notch the rotor tip lined right up with #1 on the cap. To be sure (it was compression stroke)...
Thanks for your reply. The wires are still attached to the cap. My problem is which way it goes back on. I know, it should be easy but (for some stupid reason) turned the wires on the cap and never should've touched them. There is also a notch on the cap lip but don't see one on the Mallory. I...
Thanks for your feedback Kenny. To re-cap, if the mark lines up with '0' on the timing gear cover am I in the power stroke or could I be in the exhaust stroke?
I understand the firing order for the engine is 1342 and have seen many google images showing plug wire #1 at various points on the cap (2 o'clock, 7 o'clock, 4 o'clock) so which is correct? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I believe that Mallory is a (YS621CV). My engine (1989 OMC Cobra Ford 2.3L) has the same distributor. Wish I knew how to help. Have you tried Marketplace on Facebook. My problem is locating where cylinder #1 plug wire goes on the cap. Firing order is 1342 but without a starting point for TDC on...
