5 years for oem in fresh water trailered is reasonable . More than that is borrowed time . Worse conditions ide say less time. Even so you should go through the drive every 5 years to inspect corrosion and what not.

Sounds like carburetor is gunked up and it started to clear itself out . Run some fuel treatment through the gas . I always put marine stabil every fill up to avoid issues with fuel
