5 years for oem in fresh water trailered is reasonable . More than that is borrowed time . Worse conditions ide say less time. Even so you should go through the drive every 5 years to inspect corrosion and what not.
I have an 88 bravo 1 non oiler drive I think it’s called . 1.50 ratio. What are my options to swap the upper or possibly buy a good used newer upper and swap internals over? I was told I have a “tall clutch” and they aren’t available . Just weighing my options so I can look around for good used...
Buy oem and don’t use the exhaust bellows. Trust me once you finish the job and realize how hard it is , you’ll be glad you bought expensive parts . Run the updated exhaust tube that slips in and out when drive goes up and down. I fought that damn exhaust bellows for hours for it to just fall...
I’m bought this bravo 3 gimbal housing because my bravo 1 has corrosion on the water inlet . I was told by some people on a fb group they are basically the same. Now that I have them side by side there are some extra holes and missing threaded holes I circled in the picture. Not even sure what...
Idk if it leaked but pitting plus destroyed seal leads me to believe it did leak. I’ve never put this boat in the water. It’s getting drive all freshened up and a new engine so I’ll know once I dunk it for the first time.
I ended up ordering hill one. I’ll update once it arrives and see how...
I am rebuilding/painting everything on my bravo 1 while it’s apart for a new engine . I tore down the gimbal assembly and inspected the upper steering pin. It has pitting where the seal rides. Good thing I did tear it down because seal was also destroyed. . I did more research than I care to...
I bought a Volvo penta alternator for my ls swapped boat (same engine as Volvo 350 380 and 430 v8) and I can’t find a diagram. It has a 2 pin sealed connector on the back. Part number 3884950. I believe this alternator is used for many other engines as well. Just need to know how to excite the...
Working on a mid 90s omc cobra drive with 5.0 efi engine . It only has one shift cable and I bought a replacement cable but it’s not right on the drive end. This boat has a hose that runs up from the transom with the cable inside and then cable goes directly to shifter. No bracket or “lower...
Tried fipg made by Toyota. Thst stuff has never let me down. Going to try and run the boat again at the lake today.
Worst case I’ll buy a new pump. I noticed mercruiser stopped using USA carter and uses a Korean brand now. I’m thinking if this doesn’t fix it the pump casting is leaking or maybe...
My 89 merc 4.3 v6 carbureted fuel pump leaks oil. I replaced the pump a year ago with a carter USA made marine fuel pump and just noticed it started leaking oil . I pulled the pump and replaced both the plate and mounting gaskets and it still leaks. Seems to only leak when I put a load on the...
What do you mean kick water? Pretty simple system . Impeller pumps water to the upper half of the drive . Goes into the hole in the bell housing , a rubber hose feeds it to the transom and then it pumps into the thermostat area to feed the engine. Usually through an oil cooler or power steering...
Sounds like carburetor is gunked up and it started to clear itself out . Run some fuel treatment through the gas . I always put marine stabil every fill up to avoid issues with fuel
