It might be able to be welded. The guys that repair the skegs should be able to weld it. Obviously drive needs to come off.
Doubtful if this was due to the drive hitting a rock or log but when you drain the gear oil check it carefully for metal.
Painting Aluminum. It should be an oxymoron. But it happens. Especially aluminum out drives. I recently pulled my Mercruiser Bravo III. After 4 years of my paint job on it, not a single square inch of paint had eroded or peeled from the unit. Here is how I did it and some rules to remember when...
There is not a lot of wear that happens in a PS system. While a change of PS fluid can never hurt, in this case I doubt it's your problem.
The PS pulley is on tight?
The PS pulley is cheap about $28. The main flywheel pulley is around $250.
I half wonder if the raw water pump seal was leaking longer than I first thought and it sprayed water all over the flywheel and PS pulleys and caused them to rust a little.
I only noticed the leak from the raw water...
The impeller should be pre-lubricated with a glycerin get for the absolute best results.
I am guessing most people don't actually wear out the raw water impeller with normal use. If it's damaged it's a lack of water.
While your around that area of the engine look for rusty pulleys...
Keep in mind there is a seal and a bearing in the raw water pump. The seal should be replaced. It's pretty easy to replace. There is bearing also. Harder to replace than the seal but doable.
In one of the pics the seal looks rusty. The rust is from the spring that part of the seal. I will...
Go to Boatered.com. Look under Engines, etc and there is a pinned thread on repainting outdrives. It's the prep that's important. Forget self etching primer.
It's an excellent writeup.
I for one would rather just buy the Diacom than try and spend my time fooling with an OBDII and trying to get it to work on my VP boat engine.
Then I will have more time to work on the VP boat engine.
There is a shaft seal in the raw water pump. The rubber seal can get hard & brittle. If your raw water pump dripped a little I would replace the seal.
This is the shaft seal, not the housing o-ring.
The oil control rings scrape oil and prevent excessive oil burning. Above the oil control ring are the two compression rings. They are what control compression along with the cylinder walls.
Dump a little oil into each cylinder and rerun the compression test. If it gets better your rings are...
