    Crack on drive unit - how concerned should I be?

    It might be able to be welded. The guys that repair the skegs should be able to weld it. Obviously drive needs to come off. Doubtful if this was due to the drive hitting a rock or log but when you drain the gear oil check it carefully for metal.

    There is not a lot of wear that happens in a PS system. While a change of PS fluid can never hurt, in this case I doubt it's your problem. The PS pulley is on tight?

    The PS pulley is cheap about $28. The main flywheel pulley is around $250. I half wonder if the raw water pump seal was leaking longer than I first thought and it sprayed water all over the flywheel and PS pulleys and caused them to rust a little. I only noticed the leak from the raw water...

    The impeller should be pre-lubricated with a glycerin get for the absolute best results. I am guessing most people don't actually wear out the raw water impeller with normal use. If it's damaged it's a lack of water. While your around that area of the engine look for rusty pulleys...

    A self etching primer may well etch the aluminum but whatever is removed from the aluminum will dry as part of the primer. Do you really want that?

    Go to Boatered.com. Look under Engines, etc and there is a pinned thread on repainting outdrives. It's the prep that's important. Forget self etching primer. It's an excellent writeup.

    Sqeeking sound from belt after impeller inspection

    There is a shaft seal in the raw water pump. The rubber seal can get hard & brittle. If your raw water pump dripped a little I would replace the seal. This is the shaft seal, not the housing o-ring.

    It's not clear if you had the heads machined (valve job?) or just new valve stem seals. Did the boat ever get on a plane quickly or boat new to you? Not getting on a plain can be many things from old gas to growth on bottom of the boat, to wrong prop.

    VP SX drive low oil but no sign of leak

    There is really no place for the gear oil to leak out of that you cannot see. It's not like an engine and oil where the engine can burn oil. I would just keep adding oil until it comes out of the vent.
