I finally had time again to take out the boat on the water. Now I know 100% certain that the oil and water are mixing. There is an overflow on the vent cap, and when I drained a bit of oil, it is milky blue.
If I wanted to do a complete rebuild, what repair kit would I have to buy? When I had...
I bought a boat last fall with a broken engine. I got a rebuilt 4.3 and got it installed in the winter. Also, I performed an oil change on the sterndrive. I took it on the water this last weekend. After a while on the water, I noticed that the oil from the sterndrive was spilling over from the...
I'm considering buying a boat with a 454 Chevy engine. The Mercruiser sterndrive is broken with stripped gears. Is the mecruiser sterndrive the same form as a boat with the 4.3 Chevy engine? If not, what is different? Does anyone know what the horsepower rating is on a Mercruiser sterndrive?
I bought a 2004 Hurricane Sun Deck SD 187. From what I can tell, the propeller has been replaced at one point. How can I find out what it would have come with originally for pitch?
The current one on there, I see these numbers 832830A45 19P
I'm assuming that it is a 19 pitch.
I have another...
I'm helping out a friend who did not winterize the engine in his boat. It is a Ford 351W
I see that it has 6 core plugs on each side. On the left side, two popped, and on the right side, one popped. I told him I would need to install new core plugs and then take on the water to see if the oil...
Put the heads and intake back on with new gaskets and created block off plates. Pressurized to 15 psi. No leaks holds steady pressure. I got lucky.
Also checked the pistons and they are .40 over so it is a rebuilt engine.
This is what I will do
Buy a cheap set of head and intake gaskets
Put the heads and intake back on
Create a block of plates for the water pump
Create a plate for the thermostat hole so that I can hookup air
Crossing my fingers.
I know. Everyone calls them freeze plugs, and like @alldodge I have seen engines where the "freeze plugs" kept the block from cracking. They poped, and the block was fine
I bought a boat, knowing that the engine was not winterized. It is the 4.3 Chevrolet V6. I have swapped and rebuilt a few of these engines, so I'm very familiar with them. While the engine was still in, I had it running with water connected. I noticed that the freeze plugs popped, and both the...
