Engine backfiring through throttle body when trying to accelerate

Backfiring could be the Result of Cross Firing due to Inductance from one Plug Wire to another. Often happens after wires are "relocated/rerouted" from original positions, and/or the Insulation is weak. Tying them together, may look tidier, but can create many Ignition Problems

    1956 Johnson FD-10 15hp.

I was referring to the Line(hose) between the Pump and the Carb. Can look fine on the outside, but be a mess on the inside. I know you added a Fuel Pump, but if the Hose is original, it is 70 yrs old and likely in poor condition. Alcohol in the Gas certainly doesn't help

You may have a Blockage in, or an internal collapse of the Fuel Line between the Pump and Carb. How old are the Lines?

    1974 9.9 Evinrude outboard

Why is rebuilding not an Option? Have you tried Evil Bay? There are a few sites that sell used outboard parts https://forums.iboats.com/threads/salvage-yards-by-wilde1-verified.428012/ The complete Carb has the Part # 0386959. A Carb for a 15 hp would also fit Part # 0386975, and give more...

    90hp v4 crossflow to 140hp build

Well by the 1984 model yr, OMC went back to the 2 Jet Carb on the V4s. I don't know why. Maybe they like Mercury, which used another way to Lean the Carbs at Part Throttle, were finding issues with the Leaner Mixtures Gasolines were a lot different in the late 70s and by the 80s, Gasolines were...

    90hp v4 crossflow to 140hp build

The 1980 and 81 140 did have a Jet(#3 in diagram) that was stamped #29 on it. Back in the Day, OMC was touting their 3 Jet Carburation

    Shift cable adjustment

To add to what Chris said. If you have to readjust the Idle Speed(which can happen when you change Props), you will need to do so with the Throttle Cable off, or removed from the Cable Anchor, and the Cable Length readjusted once the Idle Speed is adjusted, again with Preload. Too Much Preload...

    1956 Johnson FD-10 15hp.

It has been modified, a 56 would not have had a Fuel Pump. Word of Caution, that engine, may require a 16:1 Gas:Oil mix. While it has Anti-friction Bearings on the Connecting Rods and the Upper, and Center Crankshaft Bearings, it still uses Bushings on the Piston Pins, and Lower Crankshaft

    Weak tell tale on muffs?

Yes the Grommet is supposed to be placed in/on the Pump. A bit of Dish Soap can be used as a Lubricate to make it easier to install it, and the Tube. Also works well for installing the Impeller.

carb help on mercury xr6 150

Yeah, pretty much every used Engine runs like new when it is being sold... So you took the Coils from 2, 4, and 6, and put them on 1, 3, and 5, and the Motor ran on 1, 3, and 5? If so, that shows the Problem on 2, 4, and 6 is Upstream of the Coils. Have you checked for Spark using an...

    Another Flushing Question

To the first Part, No. To second Part, Running it a barrel, just recirculates/reintroduces the Salt, and reusing the Water the Next Day, just repeats that. Have you considered flushing it with Fresh Water using a Hose, and Muffs?
