I have a 96 Mercruiser 7.4 on a Crownline 225br. I'm not sure what ignition I have. The serial number is F810329.
Mercruiser shows the spark plug gap could be .35 or .40 depending on the ignition type.
Can anyone tell me what my ignition type is and what the gap should be?
Just to be sure, I installed the 2 wire switch from a T at the oil pressure switch.
On one side of the 2 wires switch - I run to the Purple ignition wire?
On the other side of the 2 wire switch - I run wire to the small stud on starter solenoid then to the fuel pump?
Or should I make a T and...
I like simple. Thanks!
Where would I mount the switch?
Would you recommend any particular switch?
Also, should I remount the purple wire in pic 1?
Really appreciate all the help!
Thanks Bondo.
Is this the aft pressurized oil port? (pic 4)
If so, you mention that I need a pressure switch. Would I tie into the existing switch or add a new one?
Hello. I'm in process of trying to get this new to me boat running safely.
My question has to do with proper wiring of the fuel pump. I have a 1996 Crownline 225br with a 454 Mercruiser. (serial # F810329)
I replaced the electric Edelbrock fuel pump 2 times. The previous owner had wired it...
It really has me stumped. I have to be missing something simple unless I have a burnt wire somewhere. The old starter solenoid was stuck running. I would have to tap the solenoind to get it to stop. But it seems I am bypassing everything by jumping from the red wire to the yellow.
Looking at...
I took the starter to Oreilly auto and it tested good. I put 12v to it and it energized as well.
I'm thinking bad ground. Thats why I took the starter off and sanded the mating surfaces.
Is there a way to ground the starter?
I replaced the old starter. It was the one I would tap to get it to turn over. Ever since I put the new starter in I get nothing but a click.
I will try to jumper from 12v red to yellow solenoid and let you know
I have bat voltage traveling from the slave to the starter when key engaged. I measured it at the starter as well. (12.4v on big red starter wire and 12.3 on yellow solenoid wire on starter)
However I do not have the 90amp fuse that you sent a pic of. The cable connects directly to the starter...
