One of my 8' VHF antennas had the coax break at the base of the whip. Time for a new antenna. Looking at the Shakespear 5101 and 5102 but I'll be darned if I can see any differnce between their specs other than the price. Does anyone have any further insight as to the differences in these two...
Thanks for your reply.
There is a normal paper-like top gasket with a bead of sealant on it for above the wear plate and two identical metal gaskets that are the correct size and shape to go under the wear plate -- so yes, three gaskets.
After quite a bit of searching here and elsewhere on...
I am in the process of replacing my Alpha 1 Gen 2 water pump. I am using a Mercury repair kit 817275K05 which I have had in my basement for a while unopened. When I opened this kit there are TWO identical metal gaskets for beneath the wear plate. The rest is all familiar stuff that you need...
I was starting to gather various bits I will need for next spring's commissioning. I noticed that the price of a spray can of Trilux antifouling paint is quite high compared to the price of Trilux in a can. I was wondering if anyone here has tried spraying the can version with those...
Thanks for the prompt reply.
Just for clarification: Per forum policy this thread was started as a new post taken from my reply to an archived thread. The seal in question is:
Alpha One Gen 2 : the driveshaft seal where the vertical shaft from the lower unit plugs into the upper.
I'm about to tackle this same job and glad to have found this thread since I did not know about the single seal change. Is there a proper orientation to the single seal? i.e. rcorrect side to put up?
Thanks

Is This a Coupling Failure... Or My Error?
3.0L 4 cyl with Alpha 1 G2 drives, abut 250 hours total, over 9 (short) seasons. Twins.
I took off the port outdrive to do an over-due transom reseal.
The gimbal bearing was smooth, well greased, and no water in bellows, so decided it did not need...
The drive shaft coupling on the back of the engine and the center of the gimbal bearing must be precisely alinged or you will ruin the coupling. Replacing the coupling requires removing the engine from the boat.
The manual calls for using a special Mercruiser alignment tool that inserts through...
I changed out the on-engine wtaer pump on a 4.3L MPI engine with a single point drain. After re-starting the engine running on the muffs it ran well, didn't overheat, cool water in the inlet hoses at the water pump, warm water out the outdrive showing engine cooling was taking place, but no...
Took the crank position sensor out and lost the bolt (not me, but now it is my problem.)
If anyone knows what the specs are on that bolt it would save me some fumbling around in the bilge figuring it out by trial and error. Mechanic wants to order OEM part from Mercruiser dealer... about ten...
On the inside of the transom, at the very lowest part of the transom shield on the inside of the boat I have a slow seaping leak.
I mostly know it is there because of the streak of rust it creates.
I thought this might be a leaky u-joint bellows or attendant leaks into the u-joint bellows...
My family has a boat with a 4.3L MPI engine with alpha outdrive. It has been running well all season though I personally haven't driven it for 20 years or more. On the day in question it ran great for an hour or so, then we stopped and spent a few hours on the beach. Then absolutley dead...
Hi,
I have twin 3.0L motors in my boat. Manifolds and risers were overdue for inspection, so I bought 1 manifold and 1 riser and started on the stbd side. The manifold looked good; replaced the riser and bought a second riser for the port side to do same. Today I noticed for the first time the...
