Im not an expert and take this with a grain of salt but that kind of just looks like a superficial crack in the paint or top surface. I don’t think there’s gelcoat there
I finally found a service manual for this and have a better understanding. It also appears the housing can be purchased as an ass'y[1]
Probably just need to figure out the appropriate puller setup to pull the bearing carrier/housing.

Successfully Removed the old thrust holder with a harbor freight Gear Puller Set. Penetrating Lubrication on the holder seemed critical.

Im using a harbor freight seal puller and unable to make progress removing the prop shaft seal on a 2006 9.8hp Nissan outboard. The seal rubber seams really tough/hard and very much stuck around the exterior seal perimeter.

Okay the part I was looking to identify is indeed the thrust holder, I did not realize the part had been superseded which is why the new one is different (but thought it may be the case)
I would like to replace the prop shaft seal(s) on a 2006 Nissan 9.8hp A3 model.
After removing the prop I am curious what is on the shaft directly behind the prop—it looks like a large diameter SS washer and a zinc but I am unable to determine these parts on the exploded view for the gear case...
Have had decent luck buffing with a foam drill attachment and the spray, think it's usually a 2-part but been a few years. The 2k urethane sounds good but cannot vouch for it first hand
