    This boat… always something…popping today

Well, I guess it was just water in the gas. With my luck, this is hard to believe but so far no other episodes have shown up like that one so …. I guess it was a win? We buy nonethanol and bring it to the boat by jugs. It’s just easier since the boat is kept at the lot by the river.

    This boat… always something…popping today

Not steady, intermittent and sporadic under load through the day. Plugs pulled a month ago and looked fantastic. Does NOT happen in neutral with revved engine. Was thinking go about the water in gas. Seems very plausible as I just added a new dump last week. Gonna check over all the ignition...

    This boat… always something…popping today

Hey all - 2000 Monterey with 5.0 GL-C Last summer - new ignition coil, rebuilt carb, new fuel lines, new pump relay new filter. Ran great and had a nice end to the summer months without issues. Winterized it and have been running it for the last two months without much of an issue (minus the...

Sx gear oil change shouldn’t be this hard

Yup, had an old chisel laying around that needed a little grinder work to get it perfectly flat. Gave it to’er and that’ll work. Waiting on my new plug thanks to the previous attempts. 👍 Too bad it couldn’t have been literally any other head screw…

Sx gear oil change shouldn’t be this hard

Seriously, shouldn’t I be able to take the drain plug off with a screwdriver and minimal effort? So far I broke one screwdriver and left a nice mark with an impact. It seemed I am just ruining the slot at this point. It’s not reverse threads, right? Any tips from y’all?

Seeking your knowledge on SX-M maint.

Thanks for the real world replies. I really do appreciate the knowledge. Gonna mull this one over… tempted to do it myself but the wife wants some water time this summer… neighbors buddy has a repair shop and said he could get to it this week. May go that route for now and learn to wrench...

Seeking your knowledge on SX-M maint.

I suppose it is a large question - Nothing mechanical right now, more about expectations of the timeframe I should set aside for this job, can I do it alone with the solo cart/other ways to remove the drive with one person, will it be a giant PITA for someone who has never done this job…… does...

Seeking your knowledge on SX-M maint.

Howdy. We are new to this boat and I/o style of boats. Picked up a 2000 Monterey 198 LS with 5.0 GL-c and SX-M. Initially had problems with the motor but got that sorted and on the initial test run, notes a vibration from the rear, especially with turns under load. Notes the prop has play and...

No fuel - check my work and add as needed

Oh, whoopsie, scratch that ^ Sometimes you need to be smarter than the pump…. So pump is cranking, contents below the pump look clear and water free, screen at the carb is clear. (Did notice the line from the pump to the carb is the original and got a nice well worn bend so that will be...

No fuel - check my work and add as needed

So if I hook up the positive from the pump straight to a battery and keep the negative connected to the ground, I oughta get the pump to whirl?
