I don't know, I always thought the interrupter had nothing to do with starting. Last year I replaced the distributor and the module on my Alpha one. Drove aprox 3 miles and it died. would not start for a couple days.
I read on this sight that the switch can make it hard/impossible to...
Summit Racing recommended Sierra Marine Thunderbolt 4 HEI Distributors
18-5471 WITH HAS A INTERRUPTOR WIRE that will connect to a micro switch "designed for Mercruiser V6" 358.99 bucks hope this switch cleaning was all that was needed. ? if still will need module in the future....
Well Dab Nabit.
took a quart of electronic cleaning fluid and sprayed the grease off of the microswitch. Then a sharp thin knife and worked the plunger in and out a dozen times. Turned the key expecting NOTHING and Varoom started immediately. Well that is amazing, happy but confusing...
Hello everyone
Last year I replaced the coil, distributor and thunderbolt 4 module.
Mercruiser V6 alpha one. Module was new OLD stock. This year put boat in the water and ran great x 3 miles and again Quit. No spark none at all.
I am assuming the Thunderbolt 4 unit went bad...
4.3L alpa 1 Mercury Mercruiser distributor has quit, the electric module is bad.
Trying to get this old?good boat up and running Per my mechanic you have a hard time replacing with a new distributor because they do not have the "cut out" to be able to shift.

Thank You, that's what I was thinking. Question if I try to adjust which cable, which way?
Looks like bottom RAM and that I would need to screw the cable OUT towards the tramson ? 4 turns. But do the turns at the brass barrell or at the lock nut at the cable. Cable sure...

Grandkids coming and the boat is down. The interior guy just replaced vinyl and wood on both side panels. The boat no longer goes into reverse. Shifts fine just no backwards propulsion. Forward is perfect but seems to still creep forward in neutral. Shifts easily, Just ZERO reverse...
My water gauge quit registering temps. When I ground out the temp gauge wire at the sending unit the gauge tops out. I am told that means the sending unit is still bad.
I replaced the sending unit with one "supposedly the same" from auto zone.

14 months ago I had the 4.3L engine pulled for a blown head gasket. (Done by good shop) Engine was repaired and the boat ran great all last summer. EXCEPT throttle handle seemed too tight against the side)
Extremely cold winter last year and my winterizing "not so good" I cracked two exhaust...
