I am considering bending the aluminum tubing to add more of a crown on the top / Only need an inch or so added to help drainage / reduce / eliminate puddling on top of the existing camper canvas .
While a rolling tubing bender would seem to be the best way -- its not very cost effective and I...

You can see the hoses in this pic going to the risers -- You probably want to cut them to length after installing the manifolds if your using bulk hose in place of OEM hoses.
The 2 hoses shown going in front of the valve covers wrap around and go into the manifolds at their lowest point...
I Pulled the Exhaust risers off the old tub for an inspection and they seem to be in great shape for their age 1983 -- freshwater use only.
I found what seems to be a 3 piece gasket with a thin stainless steel spacer as the center section under the risers -- I was not finding this same part...

Anyone know the details on the mechanical fuel pump check valve design on a 1983 5.7 Mercruiser / Alpha
as in ---Metal to metal or metal on rubber etc

I am trying to get me head around the 5.7 engine swap vs upgrade Pro's & Cons ( Does this seem about right ? )
Curious about fuel consumption or other related cost factors as well
I must admit I really like the idea of a 383 and more power but the practical side...
Hi
I am replacing valve cover gaskets on a 1983 Mercruiser SBC 350 // It seems the fill tube needs to be removed to get the cover up and past the nearby exhaust manifold.
I tried removing 1 fill tube strap on the exhaust manifold and wiggling & pulling up from above with no luck...
The problem statement:
On our Merc 260 ( 350 v8 with Quadrajet ) ) alpha 1 in a 1983 Searay SR260 I have had a lack of fuel issue at startup until the system builds pressure. This gets worse if the boat sits over 1 week and has been that way for some time now // However-- this season its...

Just wondering if anyone has seen this before.
The Vessel= an 1983 Searay 260DA with a 260 Merc ( 350 - Alpha -1 )
The problem = The Trim Switch open up under load ( when on plane -consistently) // but works great otherwise (slower speeds etc ).
Its been very repeatable and...
I am getting ready to finish the buffing and replace the pin striping I removed .
Whats the best way to ensure good adhesion of the vinyl after buffing & waxing // Or should avoid the wax altogether.
My process in the past has been

600 grit with air...

I have a 1983 Merc 260 Alpha one with what appears to be an oildyne pump -- ( Dipstick with flat head screw top used to check & fill reservoir. )
I inherited a problem from the previous owner in that the trim system does not have enough strength to raise the drive while the...
