Trailer bearing blowout. Need help with repair(s)

If you can wait for it Champion Trailers makes custom axles to your exact spec. Takes about 4 weeks the last time I had one done. The latest I had done is a 2x3 drop saddle center section with 6,000 capacity. This gave my trailer a big safety margin combined with 12” brakes and 225/75-15
Load Range E tires.

haha. Right!? I know. It was a while, obviously. I'll never neglect that chore again.

Our journey to our Summer vacation is 200 miles on an interstate at 65 mph. We caravan - 3 cars with 3 trailers and 3 boats.

We adhere to the speed limit because anybody with a brain and and experience knows that trailers are not supposed to go that fast.

One year I was 3rd in line and an idiot passed me at 80 mph and I could see his side wheel and bearing was red hot and wobbling. We all travel with walkie talkies so we can communicate on the trip.

I immediately called the front two cars and screamed at them to slow to 50 and let this guy pass. Two cars ahead he was just passing the lead car. My wife got the message and hit the brakes and went off onto the shoulder, just as the idiot's tire went flying in the air. It missed my wife by only a few feet.

I told her I was going to stop and punch this guy's lights out. She said if I did she was going back home. I agreed to keep my mouth shut and we went on. As I passed him his rig was half way in the ditch.

Many accidents are not accidents, but simple irresponsibility. If I fu***ed up like that I would certainly not air my dirty laundry on the internet.

As you can see careless people tend to get my goat.

Ha ha One day we were visiting Dunedin ,road was frosty / icy as all heck and driving slowly round the Otago harbour this dickhead in a Holden ute ( Pick up ) was on the horn and tailgating us ( we were doing maybe 30km/h ) any how he roared past us fingers an all and disappeared round the next corner , when we got round the corner we could see the back of his ute sticking out of the harbour and soaking wet dickhead was climbing back up to the road . Laugh ?! , we nearly shat . Made my day :D

yikes! my greatest fear on the road coming true. I stay so paranoid about my bearings and tires its way overkill. Glad no one is hurt. The $360 seems like a cheap lesson to learn.

We stop every 100 miles. I walk around and check bearing temp, look for grease spatters on the back of the tires and check the tires.

I would not do that with a car, but boat trailers are notorious for problems. The ONLY issue I EVER had on the highway was with bad tires, even though they were new and properly inflated.

You can call that overkill if you want, but having a trouble-free vacation is not "nice", but rather mandatory. Besides, the ladies like the pee break.

I not far behind you at all in this department. I check my tires and bearing before EVERY trip. My boat ramp is about 10 minute drive and I don't even want to have any problems that close to the house. I will venture about an hour away at the most. I have a small son that goes out with me often. Letting preventable issues happen (such as a bearing failing) is not optional for me.

Firearm deaths in 2023 were 18,874. That does not include suicides, which of course were not accidental.

Of the 41,000 auto deaths, how many were due to improper auto maintenance, texting or from drunk driving? THOSE conditions are due to irresponsibility, which isn't really accidental either!

I think most of the troublesome peeps are aware of the risks that are there and the ones their behaviour makes worse but the ole " wont happen to me " mind set rolls in often coupled with the "never did care about anyone other than me anyhow ". As a motorcyclist for decades I have learnt to treat all others on the road as idiots ........paid off countless times .:)
