    Hot water heater hose question

There is a little valve to turn on and off in that last side. Why would I want to bypass the tank to winterize? Wouldn't I want coolant in there as well? I think the valve does just that....instead of going through the tank it looks it just goes across the white hose. But again, not sure why I...

    Hot water heater hose question

So I am replacing my current hot water heater. It was leaking and come to find out the entire bottom of it rotted out. I have the new one and just need to install. It is a 6 gallon heater. The old heater had this hose connecting to itself?? Each fitting is a T...one hose goes out presumably to...

    Dripping engine block fitting

Already have a new set coming. Ordering them is actually what tipped me off that it was missing an o-ring when i saw the pic of them. I'll just toss em in my tool box for now and change them out in the fall/spring.

    Electronics die when cranking engine

When I checked each battery and got the 12.5v, the switch was actually still on 1 only. I'm going to get a new connector for the battery, but it is on battery 2. Battery one looks ok. I'm also going to take the switch itself apart and make sure there is no corrosion there. Good idea on...

    Electronics die when cranking engine

So I put the switch on BOTH to start this time. Which in theory is the new Hybrid deep cycle rated at 650cca and the "cranking" battery which is 800cca. GPS still shut down. I was connected up to shore power before starting with charger on so batteries are fully charged. And checked prior and...

    Dripping engine block fitting

Cool. I'm gonna try popping an o-ring on the plastic fitting and see if that helps. As long as I know 80 gallons of sea water is not gonna fly in, I'll just take whole fitting to the hardware store if I gotta replace the whole thing..

    Dripping engine block fitting

Crap..sorry, thought it was in my signature. It's a 2001 5.0 Mercruiser. Just bought the boat so don't know about the rest of rust. I did find that the plastic blue plug doesn't have an o-ring, so wonder if that's it. Gonna try and hunt down an o-ring and try that.

    Dripping engine block fitting

Found a drip in my bilge today. It's coming from a drain on block. Looks like it is leaking at where the fitting connects to the block itself. Would like to take fitting out and replace if I can or at least put some sealant around the threads or something. My concern is...if I take this fitting...

    Electronics die when cranking engine

This seems to be a common issue and I found a bunch of things online about it, but want to make sure I am doing the right things here and am not the cause. Boat is new to me so learning all sorts of stuff lol. I have a dual battery system. Originally was having issues with battery number 1 dying...

    Question on Anchor pulpit

Trying to figure out if there is something missing from my anchor pulpit. My anchor just doesn't seem to sit tight against the pulpit when it is fully up. The anchor line goes off to the Starboard side a bit into a little covered hole. And then there is a line attached to the anchor itself that...

Question on NMEA connection for marine VHF

Yep..agree!!! New to me boat as was the Raymarine I got. It was quite the upgrade from the little Garmin I had on my old boat. I assumed since it was a higher end unit, it would be able to connect without an issue. Didn't realize there were different communication protocols. Now I do lol...

Question on NMEA connection for marine VHF

So update on this. Tried using the VHF unit without having a GPS signal hooked up to it. It would emit a blaring alarm every 10 minutes advising of loss of signal and I would have to hit a button to silence. I did dome digging and there is NO way to stop it from doing that (aside from giving it...

    Question on Shore power

Update on this....I was down at the docks the other night working on a few things. The green light actually does come on....it's very faint, but it's on. So it works, and I am going to leave it alone. I just need to put my hands over it in the daytime if I want to see if light is on. Can barely...

    Boat Windshield Wiper

The wiper on my boat is kinda shredded and I want to replace. I found a few replacements that are stainless steel. Question is on fit. Is it similar to buying a car blade? As long as you get the correct length, it comes with different adapters for mounting? Or are they specific types I need to...

    Question on Shore power

So was able to get down today and use my multimeter. Outlets are getting power - 120VAC. So I am assuming it's just the bulb. Will have to pull the panel and see what kind it takes and replace. Thanks!! And sorry for the confusion.

    Question on Shore power

Just put my boat in the water tonight. This is the first boat I have had with a shore power connection. I connected shore cable together, but the light on the fuse breaker panel that says "available power" stayed off. I had just launched so didn't have a meter with me to check anything. But I...

Question on NMEA connection for marine VHF

And what is the backbone? Sorry, this stuff is waaay new to me lol. I assumed this connector plugged into the cable coming off my Axium. But apparently not.

Question on NMEA connection for marine VHF

Yep, I get that. That's what I meant. By having it hooked up to the GPS it can broadcast those coordinates. I think...and I use that loosely lol, I can get the Raymarine-VHF-Nmea0183-St-Ng-Converter kit and I would be good. If that is the case, it actually isn't too expensive. Just not sure if I...
