Question on NMEA connection for marine VHF

Oh I know that. Trouble can happen anywhere. But I thought the DSC function was so the radio itself puts out a signal as to wear I am with the push of a button and sends GPS coordinates. What I meant with the shore comment was that I could send a mayday call and give my position using a landmark...

Question on NMEA connection for marine VHF

Ahhhh....makes sense. Honestly not that important to me to be honest. Looks like the newer Horizon version supports NMEA 2000, but it is over double the price of the one I just got. I'm usually close to shore anyway, not open water, so not going to worry about it. Thanks for clarifying!

Question on NMEA connection for marine VHF

Adding a few new items to my new to me boat. Just installed Raymarine Axium 9RV and a Horizon Eclipse VHF radio. The VHF is supposed to be able to show GPS coordinates on it but it needs to be connected somehow to the Axium and I'm not quite sure how to that. The Axium has a cable coming out of...

Question on tape for engine hatchk

Perfect. I wasn't sure if it needed to be marine specific. Marine shop near me can order it, I guess it has a fiberglass layer

Question on tape for engine hatchk

Working on a few items for my new boat. One thing I have noticed is the tape seal that goes around the engine compartment hatch is peeling and falling off. I'm assuming this is some sort of special tape that is designed to keep engine fumes in the compartment and out of the cabin when the hatch...

Can't seem to find a big enough fuse block

So in reading, apparently there is a switch inside the fridge. Should prob check that lol. My wife was the one who cleaned it out, I haven't even opened it yet. I'll have to take a look at it once I put it back in. I of course got the wrong size thru hull fitting (3rd times the charm). Once...

Can't seem to find a big enough fuse block

So I had to pull the fridge out to get to some thru hull fittings that broke. Gave me a good look of the back of it. The fridge is wired for 12v and then plugs into a 120 receptacle as well. So I'm guessing it runs off both and switches dependent on power source. Will have to figure out if...

Can't seem to find a big enough fuse block

Follow up question...I have a shore power panel as well inside the cabin area for things like fridge, hot water heater, range and 120 receptacles. Do those items ONLY work when I am connected to shore power? So if I take the boat out the for the day, the fridge isn't going to be working?

Can't seem to find a big enough fuse block

I'm pretty sure that is the stock fuse block. I had a 2004 Maxum prior to this and it looks just like that same panel. That one was smaller since it was a smaller boat and didn't have as many bells and whistles, but same style. I found a wiring diagram for it it it looks like it does in fact...

Can't seem to find a big enough fuse block

Thanks. Only reason I was going 18 circuits is to match what's there. Figured could just to a 1:1 swap for all of them. Nothing is labeled, so I have no idea what fuse goes to what.

Can't seem to find a big enough fuse block

Just picked up a new to me boat. 2001 Maxum 2400scr. Was advised that there were some electrical issues. Looking at the fuse block and it seems to be kinda toast. One fuse slot is literally melted. So figured I would just replace the whole block than try to chase down electrical demons. In...

Question on vents on Starboard side of boat

Awesome. Thanks!!! Found out the sizes from a Maxum forum. Apparently need to pull my fridge out, that should be fun lol. Thanks for the info!!! At least I know now what they are called and what to buy.

Question on vents on Starboard side of boat

Yep. That's my plan for that exact reason!!! They are pretty far above the water level, but still. What do they attach to on the other side of them? Is there like a hose and drain or something on the inside?

Question on vents on Starboard side of boat

Just picked up my new to me boat and going through it (lots of questions to come I'm sure, so apologizing now :) ) I was walking around the boat and I found these 3 holes on the side. The two on the right seem to be connected to something inside. The one on the left is legit just a whole in...

    Question on fuel

Checked with the current owner. He did use 91 and was Marine grade. Gonna have to hunt that grade down lol. We have 87, 89 and 93 around here. And my Marina only has 89. So may have to go that route and put in some octane boost each time I guess.

    Anyway to tell outdrive type

Disregard. I was able to grab the serial number from a maint record. It's an Alpha Gen 2. OM16480

    Anyway to tell outdrive type

Getting a new boat and trying to get ahead of the game and order my usual maintenance items ahead of time so I can just pop them on when I pick it up. Was looking to grab my zincs but trying to determine what type of outdrive I have. I'm assuming it's an Alpha 1 Gen 2 which was what my last boat...

    Question on fuel

Good idea asking previous owner. I know he had it a slip at a large lake, so I would assume marine fuel. My old boat had a 2010 engine (3.0 mercruiser) but I would run into ethanol issues and have to rebuild the damn carb every year because of it. This new engine looks like it's the same carb...

    Question on fuel

Hey everyone, Buying a new boat and it's a bit bigger than my old one. Old fuel tank was 21 gallons, new one is 70. Engine is a 2001 5.0 Mercruiser. In the past, I have always only put a few gallons of fuel from the local gas station to get it running from the winter and do all my checks, then...

How do you match new trailer to existing boat?

Too late for that unfortunately. Trailer is already up there, and boat will be on it next time I am up there so can't measure the stringers. Will have to (fingers crossed) rely on the Marina.
