    oil leak on 3.0

Did you have to disconnect from the drive to bring the front of the motor up?

    oil leak on 3.0

OK. I've pulled and installed a number of motors in my time, so I don't see any problems doing the job. Is the marine timing cover the same as the automotive cover? I would like to get a kit with cover and gaskets. The oil pan is in fine condition, so I don't foresee having to replace that.

    oil leak on 3.0

Well it sounds like Im gonna pull the motor. I do have a chain fall so I can get the motor right out. Any idea what the 3.0 weighs? I am going to assume I dont have to mess with the outdrive at all? just disconnect, pull forward and lift like a typical engine removal?

    oil leak on 3.0

Is this a project that can be done in the boat (regardless of being a pain in the **s) or is there no way of getting around pulling the engine? I dont know if it was run in the brine or not but the oil pan appears to be in great shape, there does appear to be rust on the timing cover. If this...

    oil leak on 3.0

It definitely isn’t overfill. I can wipe the oil away and watch it start to drip. I am absolutely not interested in removing the engine and will exhaust every other option in the meantime.

    oil leak on 3.0

Is the pan gasket integrated into the timing cover gasket? The pan doesn’t leak at all and I would love to avoid engine removal, even though it is the best way.

    oil leak on 3.0

1991 3.0, I took the boat out today for the first time. Runs very well but I discovered an oil leak on the front of the engine near where the large cooling hose connects. Seems to me this would be the timing cover gasket, but since I'm just learning about the marine engines, I have to second...

    Trim issue

I’m going to take the trim sensors off the out drive and see if they can be cleaned and and reinstalled. If not I’m going to just replace over the winter.

    Trim issue

1991 stingray 536 3.0 liter Trim up is not working. I replaced the up trim solenoid and the problem remained. At that point I tracked the problem (I thought) to the switch because when I jumped the wires it would activate the trim either up or down depending on which wire I was jumping to power...

    3.0 timing

The number stamped on the block is 14097080 The local dealer said that number doesnt match anything. attached is a pic of the plate on the carb. Might not even be the original engine.

    3.0 timing

Motor fired right up and purrrs like a fat cat. The trim up solenoid is not clicking or reacting to the switch but works when I jump it so I think thats the last of the pre dip check list! gonna take care of that this am and head to the water.

Engine number is JD 4454 CO The manual I downloaded says 016 but I don’t think that’s the correct manual for this particular engine.

    3.0 timing

Thanks! I am going to have to go to the local dealer and find the manual for this specific setup. the one I downloaded has electronic ignition and no info on the points ignition.

    3.0 timing

1991 stingray 536 3.0 liter. Manual doesn't address timing with points(?). I'm going to set the timing tomorrow when I get it out of the garage and get water to it. The manual wants me to install a jump wire before timing(?). I do not have electronic ignition. I assume I am going to set...
