Do a cylinder test ....(Pull plug wires while running) Sounds like 2 cylinders are down....test to confirm. (Wet plugs electrical, dry plugs fuel)
Report back and people can tell you what to do next.
Best I can do is tell you that's an 80's motor....now is this yours or the other one? If we can see both maybe we can identify compatibility.
Pictures under the hood would help identify as well.
If it was "jerking in and out of gear" in both forward and reverse than I'd say you have the linkage adjusted wrong.
Small chance it's your prop....you would hear the motor wind up though.
Oil won't save it if the dogs are rounded off.
There's quite a few years and lots of hp range....25, 30, 35hp.
Easier to look at the parts breakdown if you see or hear of a motor for sale.
You understand that the lower end failed because you didn't check and maintain it right? It takes awhile for water to ruin it. Change your gearcase oil...
I said it didn't look like anything the coast guard uses not that's not a ex-coast guard boat.... I even complimented the walk around deck.
People read comments and miss take the body of the message.
Good luck with your motor.
Amperage goes up but voltage is negligible. Rectifier works with the battery to stay within limits. Some of it is above my pay grade.
It will get over 13 volts.
Doesn't look like something the coast guard would use...
Looks like a walk around. Should serve you well.
I live in Seattle, is that we're you and the boat are?
One moment you say 3500 RPM's, then another moment you say 5800 RPM's....which is it?
I'm assuming, wait, I'm hoping you mean on the water pushing a boat.....if not it means nothing.
Try posting pictures of this beast.
Well I won't comment on the numbers, others will come. My best guess though, if your motor will run in the water, on a boat, up to 3500 RPM's, then the motor itself is fine and you have other things going on.
When my 115 E-tec....did it, it was going on for a year and I thought it was my bushings for sure but I read that at the E-tec site and bingo it fixed it.
Poster never said he tried it so I'll just let this go.
Thanks for the reply.
Wonder why I can't watch the video....strange.
Crosby, were you able to see his video because I couldn't.
My E-tec did it and this was all over e-nation at the time. Tightening the not made mine go away. Barnacle bill has much to offer in advice for the guy.
The charge kit is labeled under accessories. Here it is.
Finding a used cheaper stator will be your goal.
