The pin comes through a slot in the housing.-----Those parts stay up there.----On a 50 year old motor it makes perfect sense ( to me ) to remove the power head to inspect those parts.
The roll pin drives / turns the mechanical seal.----And it is used for both long and short shaft.-----I say remove the power head and replace #1 and #3-----Inspect #4-----Refinish #2.

Post the actual compression values here.----Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" on each of the 3 leads ?----Clean the carburetors.----A new to you motor should have a new water pump impeller installed as well.----Or at least test the overheat horn.
