The flywheel key is very small on these outboards.-----It's job is to locate the flywheel for timing.----The flywheel is driven by locking tapers.-----Imagine a 9.9 HP and a 300 HP using the same key !

Those do NOT have to be removed to convert to fuel pump operation.-----Jusr block off the air hose that feed pressure to the old style tank.----check the thermostat , as I often find them stuck open or missing.
I have a few with twisted propshafts myself.----Pick them up at dealers for parts.----Due to competition manufacturers are saving money with weaker materials.-----Gears are likely no good either.-----If you reuse the gears your boat may suffer a " dynamic halt " with no warning.
Lower shift rod is to be screwed all the way into the yoke in the gearcase.-----Notches in upper and lower shift rods must be lined up BEFORE the 1/4" fine bolts are put in.----Only adjustment is up at the top ( near handle ) on these.----Shift rod height does not apply to this motor !
