    Model # of this motor ?----Is it another crossflow with the dreaded broken piston ring syndrome?----Easy to rebuild a crossflow and better pistons are available.----You need 4 O/S pistons in my opinion.----And determine the cause of failure or you might need to do it again!

    25hp Evinrude

    Newest " parts " motor I have is a 25 HP 4 stroke.-----Stripped gears and owner gave up on it.-----That old 25 HP 2 stroke is very durable and will live for many years with proper care.

    The 24.5" driveshaft does not automatically mean a 25" shaft lower unit.----Best to get help / price of lower unit at your local dealer.

    I believe the most efficient RPM for a big 2 stroke is around 3600 / 3800 RPM.----It was that way for me with a 1966 Johnson 100 HP.-----Your results may vary.

    Compression test.----Post the actual values.----Blown head gasket can cause overheating,---Easy to do.-----Or ground in wiring harness setting off the alarm.-----You should have installed a new impeller when you bought this motor.
