    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

Got the carbs off, cleaned, and reinstalled yesterday. Running much better. Starts easy, doesn't die. Idles a bit high though. I found the idle stop, but that didn't seem to drop the idle very much. I see where it looks like the cables are adjustable. Not sure want to mess with that or not. Not...

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

Thanks for all the helpful info. Never thought about trying the library. I'm definitely going to check into that. A manual would be nice, but I can't seem to dig up anything that I'm sure is the correct one. Seems most cover a range of engines, kinda like the old Chilton manuals for cars I'm...

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

I actually turned this one up, pretty much all I can find. Wish it showed how to pull them. Guess I can figure it out. Be nice to have a manual, but not even sure if that's an option. Ones I've looked at seem to be for newer motors or cover a bunch of sizes which may not be of much use? Sure...

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

Just bought a boat with this motor on it. Been sitting for a few months. Got it running and it seems like a strong runner. All cylinders are pretty even @150 lbs. Issue is it dies when I throttle it down. Actually is seems to idle halfway decent with the stick forward a bit, but not when the...

    25HP Idles Low in Neutral

Thanks, that's a good read. Now pretty sure am on a wild goose chase and no adjustment exists. Maybe it's time to go back in the barrel to see if tweaking the low speed setting may help some. Does anyone think it's normal to not be able to rev it up in N? I know it's limited, but limited to...

    25HP Idles Low in Neutral

Both the same, either 130 or 135. Think 135. Motor appears to not have seen much use, but it's passed through the hands of a couple knuckleheads, not including the present owner (me). So from what I'm hearing should I assume there is no adj for high rpm limit in neutral? I sure can't seem to...

    25HP Idles Low in Neutral

OK, thanks. I learned something today. I won't mess with that screw. Any ideas why this motor barely accelerates in neutral? Thing is I start it with nearly as much throttle as I can and then it idles at like 500 and turning the handle may get me up to 700 or so. Which is too low for when it's...

    25HP Idles Low in Neutral

Could it be something with the tiller? Like maybe it's not installed properly? The pointer does not seem to be where it should be. Either in N or in F. The first 3 show the limits on the handle. Both fast and slow. Plus the position on the stop. The last 3 show it in Forward gear.

    25HP Idles Low in Neutral

Yes, motor works quite well actually. Looking at what you circled, are you referring to that screw? I don't see anything rubber, maybe it's missing, but I'm hesitant to move the screw as it doesn't seem like it would have any affect on that cam. Or the tab that rides on it. I'm temped to try to...

    25HP Idles Low in Neutral

Yes it does. The issue is the throttle barely moves until I put it in gear. I know there's a stop to limit speed in N. I just don't know how to adjust it.

    25HP Idles Low in Neutral

Motor runs well, starts on one pull. Only problem is it idles low in neutral and turning the tiller doesn't do an awful lot. Just turns a hair is all. It revs so low even with the throttle fulling cranked that the motor wants to die. When it does it's hard to start. Once warm though all is good...

    New Trailer - Weird Bunks

Thanks for the info. I intend to put some carpet, maybe vinyl downspout material on them, but going to just cut some new boards instead of drilling more holes in these things. So they tilt the wrong way. This is what I was thinking too. What about the bevel cut on the ends? Never saw bunks cut...

    New Trailer - Weird Bunks

Picked this up off a neighbor. Curious about the bunks. Why the bevel cut at the end and how come they're not balanced? Is this on purpose or just shoddy work?

    How to Remove Brass?

You'd think so wouldn't you? Not so. The original prop had that much slop in the bore. The new prop fits very snug. Greased the shaft and tapped it home with a rubber mallet. Haven't had it out on the lake yet, but think it's going to be OK.

    How to Remove Brass?

Never mind. I got it on with a little pursuasion. It fits tight, but it fits! Should I grease the shaft? I'd hate to not be able to get it back off if I need to.

    How to Remove Brass?

Bought a new prop for my 77 25 HP rude: Michigan Match 3-Blade Aluminum Propeller (012013) Supposed to be a direct replacement for the original OMC 388088. All seemed good until I tried to install it. The old prop has a larger motor side bore which looks to extend down about an inch. I can see...

    Are plastic props junk?

Only time I've seen a plastic prop was also on a Force. Think it was a 9.9. Looked might small and flimsy. Not sure if it was stock or not, but sure didn't look right.

    Evinrude Paint

I like black. Black is black. Back when I was into snowmobiles any old black was a good match on any factory black sled. Primer question: Is it necessary to use etching primer if I don't sand through to bare aluminum? I'm thinking not, but would like to know for sure.

    Evinrude Paint

Yeah, that's prob the best advice. LOL I'll have to take a part of the motor along and drag somebody with so that I'm at least in the ballpark. I suppose touching up is a dumb idea. If going to do anything guess should shoot the whole thing. I've got a spray gun and know how to use it, but the...

    Evinrude Paint

Thanks guys. You've all been a lot of help. Sadly it's all for nothing though as I've only found one place that has the correct color. They're in Canada and with shipping one rattle can is going be nearly fifty bucks. Current plan is to find something that looks close and go with it. Be nice if...
