Should I keep the Volvo 280?

Another thought... Could I make up for the lack of engine trim with a set of trim tabs. That lenco auto tab system looks like it could make the lack of trim on the 280 a non issue or at least less. If just have to pick a pin setting and see where it takes me.

Should I keep the Volvo 280?

290 is duo prop? Is the transom cutout the same? Would the engine have the same placement in the hull?

Should I keep the Volvo 280?

I do all my own mechanical work. So the working on it isn't necessarily a issue. Trim is kind of a hang up but the once or maybe twice I'm going to be in big water it won't be a major issue. Like the OMC though knowing the ins and outs of the drive could make it last a long time. Sbc motors are...

Should I keep the Volvo 280?

I'm just weighing my options. I guess I could and probably will employ a kicker motor. After the OMC Cobra and my friend out in CA blowing something in his outdrive 20 miles out has me a tad gunshy. The OMC was my fault for not filling it the correct way (that's why asked about the nono's.)...

Should I keep the Volvo 280?

What are the major things that go wrong on a 280? What are the no no's?

Should I keep the Volvo 280?

Thats another consideration to think of. I just don't want a outdrive that will get me stranded if for instance I end up a few miles out doing some fishing. It's possible with the 280 folks have ran them for years I understand, but finding good parts and keeping it running to spec is what...

Should I keep the Volvo 280?

Yeah it's a gm small block. We used to have a boat salvage yard here in town that you could turn to, but he's gone now. I haven't actually done a transom check yet but that would be covered during a upgrade astern. What mercruiser bravo 1? Could I run a alpha on a boat like this? Its just a...

Should I keep the Volvo 280?

Currently rebuilding the decks and fixtures in this boat 85 Bayliner 2150 Capri 5.0 litre. We bought this as a running boat with a cooked interior. Anyways not having trim on the outdrive is giving doubts about whether I should keep it and either run a engine bracket and a more modern outboard...

    Installing new decking question

I had pretty good success with rustoleum Rusty metal primer then top coat on my deck surfaces that were getting carpeted. I was running a aluminum hull boat there was resin on some surfaces like the swim deck and front deck I think the paint did better jobfor the most part. The wood was...

    Bayliner Capri 2150 resurrection.

Well we got it home today it's been sitting for a couple - few years in storage. I pulled the engine through by hand just checking. We ran the engine after buying it then mothballed it again. It's a volvo 5.0 with a 280 outdrive. The pictures look a dirty but the deck was new right after...

    Bayliner Capri 2150 resurrection.

Yeah I was trying to see if there were prefab poly tanks that I could just drop in similar to a fresh or waste tank but with a open top and a lip. It looks like I may be forced to build one instead.

    Bayliner Capri 2150 resurrection.

A nice big flat fighting area in the back and plenty of storage under that deck and a nice big insulated fish box. I think there will be plenty of depth still just not chest height..

19' to 21' Bowriders or Sport Decks

Your gonna be hard pressed to get a boat that rides better than a SeaRay. My 93 Stingray 501zp was a scary boat in all water it looked cool and ran fast, but anything more than a little chop on the water and it was useless, it was a pleasure for it to leave.

    Bayliner Capri 2150 resurrection.

I agree the center would need to be knocked out and a full width be assembled and put in. So yesterday I sold my beloved 90 Spectrum to fund some new stuff for this year. Mainly a bigger boat. I've been racking my brain for a while now on how best to move forward on the Bayshaker and it just...

    Bayliner Capri 2150 resurrection.

Yeah I built the bracket for the spectrum it worked great, made it a much better boat. The things I learn on that will apply to the new setup with refinement of course.

    Bayliner Capri 2150 resurrection.

Out with the old Spectrum and in with the older Bayliner. We are gonna need a bigger boat. I've put the old Spectrum that I bracket swapped from the OMC Cobra TKO to a Mercury 115hp 2 stroke outboard. A few years ago I purchased a 85 Bayliner Capri 2150 cuddy with hopes of getting it up and...

    PWC's on the ohio ideas

I got the Iboats map thing to try and plot this whole deal out. Am I reading this thing correctly? It shows the vast majority of that drive from Eville to the Tennessee at about 9ft deep. I actually think we may be more for a Cumberland river lake barkley Tennessee River excursion. If I can...

    93 Mercury 115hp Adding a 5" extension

Been a while since I posted. This year we got to play in the intercoastal and sound around Edisto Island, SC. The old repowered boat ran perfect and allowed us to go places you can't to by car. The extension did its job great made a world of difference keeping the powerhead up higher. I'm...
