    1985 mercruiser 3.0 starter

I’ll second this. After slinging WAY too many direct drive Delco’s on cars, and doing it once on my 2.5, the PMGR on my 4.3 was a JOY by comparison. Stronger, lighter and smaller… all good things

What gas do I use in my boat???

No ethanol free here either. Same engine, just a 1980 vintage… runs fine on pump gas 87, and I add a dash of stabil at each fill up and pump the tank dry end of season.

nooooo. there is still a ton of intramuscular fat in the pork. I just take a good bit of the rendered fat from the drippings and decide how much goes back on.....

Dinner was deeeelicious. Had the pulled pork served with its own jus (I got a fat separator for that) and a cucumber salad. Total cook time was around 7.5 hrs for the pair of them. Love this Traeger, set it and forget it so you can do other things like sew new bow seat covers…..threw in a...

Outdrive initially jammed when turned by hand

this exactly.... SOMETHING was causing the drive to be stiff.... At the very least, pull the plugs and drain the oil for an inspection. I would also be at the very least pulling the top cap and taking a look at what I can see... Changing a coupler isnt so much fun that I would want to be doing...

    latest aquisitions.....

well, a couple of weeks ago I had a few spare minutes, and decided to see what is up with the one ski that is in the better condition. Did a compression check on it, and came up with good pressure on all three holes, so feeling a bit froggy at this point, I stuck a fresh motorcycle battery in...

Why I do not have new boats.

there is always someone out there that needs the latest/greatest/newest/shiniest out there... then there are those of us who buy those toys at a deep discount when the luster wears off, and have just as much fun with the toy, but laugh all the way to the bank when we dont have an exorbitant...

Why I do not have new boats.

yeah. that pretty much sums it up... Add that I enjoy working on things, it allows me to "enjoy" them when not actually using them for their intended purpose.... Since I seem to collect boats that need floors/transoms, I must have some weird fiberglass fetish....

    The End

ill probably lay one of the boats up for the winter by the end of the month, the other a couple weeks after that. Its not so much the chance of freezing here (that is still a couple months away), but the wife thinks its too cold to go out on the lake (she would wear a sweater out if its 110...

Why I'm nervous boating at night...

went out tonight for the first time AT NIGHT, and we owned the lake. Not a soul in sight, save for the dude fishing from the boat dock (no fishing area, but he wasnt bothering anyone..... ) Probably wont make a habit of it, but watching the sun go down was a great experience. Just gotta watch...

    High RPM’s

with the "cling cling cling" noise also check your shift cables to ensure the drive is actually going into gear. You can get that noise if the dog clutches are not fully engaging if the shift cables are faulty. THIS IS VERY DAMAGING TO THE DRIVE.... so check it sooner rather than later.

    High RPM’s

if you are advancing the throttle, and the engine picks up speed, but the boat doesnt go any faster, start looking at the coupler and the prop hub. if the engine does not advance in rpm with increased throttle, then the accelerator pump in the carb may not be functioning. If you used an...

Will this tube "blow" my engine

bingo.... have a lower pitch prop and keep both on the boat. if you intend to tow, drop the pitch, and run with it, if just gonna putz around, put the other one on... about a 5 minute procedure to do.

Few power after hitting a log

could be a number of things, the least expensive of which is a spun prop hub..... could range from that all the way up to a destroyed outdrive. Kinda hard to tell without an inspection.

Why I do not have new boats.

New is no indicator of “problem free”…. At work our newest buses have the most issues. One is a wiring nightmare and has spent most of its time since delivery at the dealer getting manufacturing defects fixed. The second newest had the rear axle nearly fall out of it (someone absent on “torque...
