I used up all my curse words yesterday

plenty of vehicles out there that are a PITA to change the plugs in.... Old 2nd gen Exploder I had, the #3 plug was right hard against the heater box, and no good way to get the bugger out... AFAIK it was still the OEM plug in there when it went to the junkyard... I wasnt gonna fight it...

    question on power steering ram

fine idea, but most hardware stores you cant find a screw or bolt of a correct size, let alone something as "complicated" as an o-ring.... our Ace Hardware is pretty much useless in that respect.... and I would rather not have the boat down for as long as it would take to order from...

Modifying propeller hub for new rubber hub

not to sound like a ****, but when you test it, take a spare prop... Nothing like going like hell, then all of a sudden the rpm goes way up, and you drop off plane because the hub started slipping......BTDT with a stock prop, and its no fun trying to idle back to the dock, or looking for someone...

    Check your Prop Folks!!

I would put that up to age more than anything else. Given that part is "supposed" to fail first to save the lower unit, it had a good life, and is due for replacement

    question on power steering ram

ok. Looks like my power steering ram may be leaking a bit. Not a big deal (yet) but I want to get my ducks in a row. Looks like the ram is NLA, as is the Volvo equivalent. (this is an SX in Drag Cobra) Are the two interchangeable? if so, the Volvo piece is a bit cheaper, and I can get rebuild...

    1987 3.0L water in oil

if your manifold or riser cracks, water will get into the oil through the valves... I had a bad riser on my 2.5, and sure enough, it backed up into the valves through manifold. Thankfully it did no damage, as I caught it early (during rebuild, so on the hose). keep in mind there is water still...

    4.3L horsepower

my 17' Four Winns with the 4.3 runs a 21 pitch prop from the factory.

    The End

started on mine this morning... pumped about 5 gallons of gas out of each, the Galaxy had its drain plugs pulled for the winter, the interior will get vacuumed out tomorrow, and the cover will go on for the winter... the Four Winns will likely get its plugs pulled tomorrow, and the interior and...

    I hit a rock

a search for props for his application shows two different propshafts.... 13 and 15 spline... the 2.3 used the 13 spline which has NO props available with anywhere near the pitch that would be needed..... his 4.3 is the 15 spline which is a bit more universal, and more available with exotic...

    I hit a rock

Ok, you are gonna run into a BIG problem with that... up until 1990 the 2.3 used a 13 spline propshaft, which you CANNOT get with enough pitch to work with the engine and drive ratio.... your 1992 drive uses a 15 spline propshaft..... you are gonna have to find a different donor drive... as...

    I hit a rock

your question requires more information to accurately answer..... and the answer is "maybe" year matters... if you have a "late" cobra, say 1995 or newer, its actually closer to a Volvo SX, look at those for a "new" drive.... if its earlier, then you can proceed to second question, as IIRC only...

    Gimbal bearing puller

I had already pulled the bellows and bellhousing for access. I have large hands, and being able to see what I am doing is a plus. I cannot see how you would be able to use the "nuclear option" without pulling those parts... Plus it keeps the shavings out of the bellows.....

    Gimbal bearing puller

The puller you show should work, unless it’s REALLY stuck…. The one I did last year had been in there since 1980, and BROKE two of the axle pullers…. I ended up having to remove the gimballing “eye” and cutting the aluminum outer housing with a dremel……

Thats all for this year folks, time to hibernate this beast.....

Read this thread here from 2014, and it seems concise. just want to check and see if anything was missing..... https://forums.iboats.com/threads/first-time-winterizing-omc-cobra-4-3-l-i-o.641219/ mine is also a 1995, so should be the same. Looks like drain the engine using the block drains...

    The End

Ill be parking the Four Winns after today... We ran it down on fuel (to an estimated 1/4 tank or so) today and had a great time on the lake with it.... we have the Galaxy for the next couple of weeks here that still has a bit of fuel in it to burn off.... Next weekend, Ill go through and...

    latest aquisitions.....

Lake test 100% successful. Ran great once it hit the water, no further adjustments needed. Now I will actually buy a battery that fits (not the spare Harley battery with an Amazon envelope over the top for an insulator). Its not the prettiest, its not the fastest, but it was a hell of a lot of...

    latest aquisitions.....

well, the SLT is ready for a water test. Installed the carbs and finished up the loose ends on it this morning, save for installing new trailer lights. Looks very good for heading to the lake tomorrow morning for water tuning and final testing.... Not too shabby for a "free" ski that I have so...
