Mercruiser 3.0 diagnosis / serial number decode

cheap parts will bite you.... I just replaced a less than three year old set of bellows because I went "cheap" chinesium parts..... I replaced with Sierra this time..... much thicker rubber, so hopefully will last better.... and were really no more expensive than the Chinesium crap from the...

    trim pump issues.....

according to Mercruiser service bulletins, these pumps are non-serviceable as per Prestolite. Aside from o-rings, there are no parts available, and the specs for the pop-off spring settings are not published in the service manual... that said, yeah, I took mine apart to see if it was just a...

    trim pump issues.....

yeah, I spent the last few days in the manual trying to make it not be the pump...... but its the pump... I pulled it off this morning and opened it up... full of crap, and the shuttle valve that controls the release of "up" side pressure in "down" mode is jammed solid.... no amount of...

yes, it will drop like a rock when you disconnect a cylinder.

    trim pump issues.....

I dont have access to a gauge, but I am getting good flow out of a disconnected line. There are no pipe plugs in the valve body. Someone before me had dicked with the check valves in the control body, so that could still be dorked up, That said, there is no restriction in the control valve on...

    trim pump issues.....

motor runs in both directions. from what I can tell, the check valve on the "up" side is not releasing pressure for the fluid to return to the reservoir. No amount of banging on it has freed it up, its stuck GOOD..... pressure and flow are good, once you provide a "return" (cracked loose hose)...

    trim pump issues.....

sounds good. I will need to physically leave the disconnected lockout there though, it acts as a fulcrum point for the upper/lower shift cable connection..... that is no biggie though....if the hose connections are the same 1/8 inverted flare, then its easy peasy electrically....

    trim pump issues.....

ok, if there is a more appropriate area mods, please move this.... boat and trim system in question is a 1980 Galaxy with a 120 Merc engine/drive combo (MC-1 IIRC) the trim WILL NOT go down on the switch.... I have traced it to a likely stuck shuttle valve on the "up" circuit that is not...

anyone know of an OTC equivalent to this?????

ok, for the record, a workaround to the seemingly "proprietary" nuts here is this.... use a 1/4" standard ferrule, and a 1/4" inverted flare nut.... works just like the original, but you can get them locally.... the angles in the fittings are compatible, and will compress the ferrule for a...

anyone know of an OTC equivalent to this?????

2900 is good, but this pump only does 800 on the down side (OLD prestolite pump spec from manual) I will just replace the whole damn fitting into the pump and reverse lockout, as long as I can get the proper thread pitch. I won’t try to seal a standard ferrule into this, just in case the angles...

anyone know of an OTC equivalent to this?????

agreed. question is, will a standard two piece unit stand up to the pressure of the pump..... just for $hits and giggles, ill head to the hardware store today and see if they have a combo that will "work" temporarily at least..... Shipping confirmation has these parts coming in next friday (so a...

anyone know of an OTC equivalent to this?????

I’m in Globe. With the mines you would think there would be a hydro shop around, but alas, nope. Probably a bit small for their stuff though anyways

anyone know of an OTC equivalent to this?????

yeah, the driveshaft bellows I just installed today was ordered a couple of weeks ago, and spent a week in FEDEX purgatory somewhere in Ohio..... Really could have used it LAST WEEK when it was supposed to be here......

anyone know of an OTC equivalent to this?????

yeah, I already bought some off ebay, I was hoping someone would have said "just go to such and such, and you can get them TODAY"....... shipping lately is a crapshoot..... so much for the postmans creed, and nothing stops them from their appointed rounds, now its.... what excuse can we give...

anyone know of an OTC equivalent to this?????

looking to see if anyone knows an over the counter equivalent to this tubing nut... its mercury P/N 22-49718, and connects the damn plastic trim hose to the pump and the reverse lockout.... one of mine blew out, and replacement genuine is at least a week away.... I would prefer to be on the...

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

The bearings are whatever your hub takes. The buddies are just a type of dust cap with a grease nipple.

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

The bearing buddies just pop in replacing the normal dust covers. As for the gauge, there are ones that have a built in sensor and take no electricity hence being a direct reading type. It’s literally a thermostat bulb attached to a gauge.

    Easiest Conversion

the 4.3 uses mounts on the side of the engine, whereas the 3.0 and 3.7 use a mount on the extreme front. as far as I know there are no adapters, you just fabricate mounts to fit the engine you choose to put in, and fiberglass them to the hull. same as the original MFG did.

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

if I were you, and had access to the "automotive" stores that we do, I would get a good old fashioned automotive direct reading temp gauge, and screw it into one of the plugs in the block, or even where the temp sensor currently is.... something like this...
