    Seats for Sunrunner272 ultra

You could try Don's Surplus and Salvage in Clearwater, FL, Lanier Marine Liquidators in Dawsonville, GA or Alabama Boat Salvage in Talladega, AL. There are many more up and down the east coast. You might get lucky and find a boat that was salvaged from one of the storms over that past few years.

Can you get rid of water in foam flotation, and if so, How?

On the seat issue, I used 1/2 inch marine plywood on my deck and put a second layer of 1/2 inch marine plywood as reinforcing underneath the deck (also attached the reinforcing to the stringers) where I would put a pedestal. I haven't decided on the redesign of my seats but I may box underneath...

    Fuel leak

My 1976 Sea Ray had a 60 gallon aluminum tank. It had foam around it that was saturated. There weren't any apparent leaks but the tank had a lot of sludge in the bottom. I tried cleaning it out but that was almost impossible. Mine had a lot of corrosion so I went with a custom made new...

    Preserving Opened Sealant

I just found a screw in plug for sealant tubes at Harbor Freight. Haven't tried it yet to see if it works or not.

Question on poly and Epoxy prices

Marine plywood is not necessary, more nice to have so you get better water resistance over the years. Agree with the above, it sounds like a resin or catalyst quality problem. I used US Composites poly but just got the last 5 gallons from Fiberglass Supply. US Comp is cheaper than Fiberglass...

Question on poly and Epoxy prices

What wood are you using or are you putting it on old fiberglass or gelcoat? What temperature are you at when you glass? Are you using laminating resin or finishing resin? I have both Poly and Epoxy and find Poly easier since it seems to saturate fiberglass cloth easier. I use Epoxy for...

    Axle sleeve time

I haven't used a sleeve on an axle before but my experience comes from a sleeve on a crankshaft damper. It worked for a while but the sleeve eventually wore through causing a new leak. Just check it periodically make sure you have a good seal.

    Multiple Electrical Issues

You could try a small long skinny wire brush (harbor freight has some) to carefully clean the insides of the connector. Once clean, use dielectric compound to help keep them clean in the future.

Fuel Tank Shape - Lesson Learned

I haven't found any thick neoprene that I could bandsaw wedges from. A friend has some large cedar shims (basically cedar shakes) so they are large enough to trim into 4" x 8" and double stack them. to about 3/4" tall. Since I plan to glass over them I assume cedar would be ok to use...

Fuel Tank Shape - Lesson Learned

I am not home right now otherwise I would take a picture. After setting the tank in place to squish the peanut butter out, I found that the front corners actually sit down directly on the hull. The slope was such that the front strips of neoprene were about an inch in too far to pad under the...

    Bilge Vent Puzzle?

Hey good point! Puzzle solved.... For best air flow, one would want the cross section of the outflow opening to match the inflow opening cross section otherwise the ventilation is not as efficient due to the restriction. Now I just have to find a space for the inlet hoses and how to route...

    Bilge Vent Puzzle?

Thanks for the pics. It does seem that my assumption on the divided vent box makes sense but not sure why they needed three holes.

Fuel Tank Shape - Lesson Learned

Well, the wood shims came it today that I ordered on Amazon. They are garbage. They advertised 4" x 9" x 1"... They aren't and the tapers are inconsistent... I am tied up this weekend so will come back to this issue the first of next week...

    Bilge Vent Puzzle?

As we have all experienced, restoring a boat that isn't all there becomes a challenge on putting back in parts. So, this puzzle is relative to the vent above the transom. First, I have two side vents, one on each side. They are about 16 inches long by 1.25 inches high and feed to a 3 inch...

    Cleat Mounting

Just added the 3/4 inch backing plywood to my aft cleats and the back two hand rail mounts on each side as those didn't have any reinforcing at all. Still have the front hand rail mounts to do. Wildey, thanks for posting the pic as I had forgotten to look at those during my restoration so that...

    Cleat Mounting

I just checked and mine do not have any backing or reinforcement including no embedded aluminum plate. I am going to add 3/4 inch marine plywood as a backing. There is backing on my bow eye.

    Cleat Mounting

Hmmm, thanks for the note. Maybe that is how the boat in the pic above was made. I will check it out but I think I could see light through the fiberglass where the cleat was mounted near the transom.

    Cleat Mounting

How timely. I was just working underneath my gunwale and looking at the cleat mount this afternoon. Mine are just through bolted to the fiberglass cap. I was considering adding some extra plywood backing for reinforcement. I doubt my existing cleats would have held up as good as those in the...

Fuel Tank Shape - Lesson Learned

In a little delay on finishing this up. Yesterday, I had to drive 3 hours one way to pick up another 5 gallons of poly resin, some 3 inch vent duct, and starboard spacer pads for the tank mounting tabs. So, now waiting on the Bondo product and some shims from Amazon to play with them a bit to...

    Cracked 5.7 engine

Repeated heat and cool cycles from continuing to run the engine will invite the cracks to open further. When you normally go boating, how far are you from shore and how far are you from a tow if she dies on you while out on the water? That might tell you whether you want a temporary repair or...
