    Flushing Muffs

Before the Mercruiser made flush out came out I always wrapped a bungee strap around the drive to keep it in place.

    removal of steering cable

The drive has to be removed before the shaft can be pulled out. I feel your pain as it can be a real PITA. Remove the bracket off the cable spool which may make it easier to access the slotted screw in the spool.

    Mc-1 upgrade....

Measure center to center the 2 bolts that mount the rear of the engine to the inner transom plate. Hopefully if it is 9&5/8” then you should be able to reuse the flywheel cover and coupling.

    Ford 302 exhaist leak sound

Another way is to squirt some auto magic transmission fluid in the carburetor. If there is a exhaust leak you will see the smoke.

    Overheating mercruiser 3.7l lx

Since you have 2 engines one way to find whether the drive or the engine is causing the problem is to cris cross the drive to engines cooling hoses with some auto heater hose. I know this may sound weird but it is easy to do.

Newer 3.0L in place of an Older 3.0 QUESTIONS

His inner transom engine mount spread is wider than an Alpha which is 9& 5/8”. Is there a 12& 3/4” flywheel with the small bolt pattern? I wonder if the larger flywheel could be turned down to the 12&3/4” dimension so that the ring gear can be swapped over? Then everything will bolt in using...

    Mercruiser 233 Overheating--Out of Ideas

If you cannot stop the water by hand then that rules out the drive pump delivery to the engine. You really need to add a short section of clear hose to the in coming water hose at the thermostat housing. If there is a combustion leak the pressure will overcome the incoming drive pump supply...

    1977 302.

There were 4 distributors that came in the Ford engines. Mallory, Prestolite, Ford, and Mercruiser which is actually a Holley. Whichever one you have if the dwell stays steady then the points system should give good service. Just be sure to get the ignition parts from either Mercruiser or...

    Mercruiser 233 Overheating--Out of Ideas

What about the hose from the bell housing to the gimbal housing? Can you hold back the incoming water to the thermostat housing from the drive at idle with the hose removed with your hands?

    1995 four winns fling

Try running the boat on a 6 gallon outboard tank. If the engine does the same thing then you will know the problem is with either the fuel pump or the carburetor. If it runs better then their may be a restriction in the suction tube in the tank. They have a very fine tubular filter screen...

    freshwater cooling full kits

Whichever kit you get you will need a crankshaft driven raw water pump pulling from the bottom of the boat with a valve to close off the water should you need to service the crank driven pump. The drive pump needs to be connected with a “Y” pipe to the incoming water. This way the drive pump...

89 omc with cobra drive, fights me to shift into neutral

One thing you can try is to remove the “V” Shaped spring and stretch it wider to hopefully shift the roller to the center position quicker.

1984 OMC 3.0 Stringer Sterndrive upper unit bearing housing and 314725 tool

As far as the lower goes it uses the same shim tools as the outboard. Maybe one of the local outboard shops will at least do the shim checks for you and you can finish the assembly. Just wave some $ at the mechanic.

    Electric shift coupler

Be sure that the shaft does not “bottom out” in the coupling. If that should happen the main bearing thrust shoulder gets burned up. If in doubt, remove the intermediate shaft before bolting the engine to the intermediate housing. Then push it in and be sure the retainer flange is seated...
