    120 HP mercruiser 153 ci 2.5 L issues

The 90 degree fitting on the top of your carb is where the pump drain goes. It’s plainly visible in your first pic

    120 HP mercruiser 153 ci 2.5 L issues

with a good rebuild kit (mercrusier preferably) and a little time and knowledge (some of the instructions arent that clear) you will have the better carb. Main thing, take pictures, and get it CLEAN inside. any crap in the passages will cause issues. Time and patience are your freinds.

    120 HP mercruiser 153 ci 2.5 L issues

the issue with the Amazon (and other sourced) knockoff carbs is that they are usually poor workmanship and materials. You can try to go with smaller jetting, but that wont help if the castings are leaking, and the gasket surfaces arent flat and true (and therefore dont seal) There can also be...

    120 HP mercruiser 153 ci 2.5 L issues

Very likely. Porous castings aren’t unheard of, along with poor workmanship (sealing) the Amazon repops aren’t the best, but the price is good. A reworked oem carb is your best bet

Black and sooty is excessive fuel. A vacuum leak will have it run lean, which will give whitish tips to the plugs

a carburetor shouldn't spill fuel like this, right?

I would agree, if the pump is specced at the proper 4-7 psi. If however it’s specced closer to 9-10, that’s where I would put in a regulator. OP hasn’t stated if it’s a new pump or the old original that now has an overactive sense of purpose. Either way, he needs to get that rail pressure down some

    120 HP mercruiser 153 ci 2.5 L issues

The first is the fitting where the hose from the pump should go. The second is how the breather attaches to the spark arrestor. Yours may be slightly different, or you could be missing parts. Being older either is possible

    120 HP mercruiser 153 ci 2.5 L issues

there should be a fitting on the air horn of the carb (or nearby) that the line you have blocked off should run to. A good functioning carburetor is the next step. as for the breather, venting to air is "ok" but not ideal. Your air cleaner (actually just a spark arrestor) should have a...

a carburetor shouldn't spill fuel like this, right?

as stated, at 9-10 psi you are likely overcoming the floats. Either different pump with less pressure, or an inline regulator to get that down to 4-7 psi would be where I would start.

that hose is the breather, and goes to the air cleaner.

    120 HP mercruiser 153 ci 2.5 L issues

I would start by getting rid of the chinesium carburetor. 99% are a poorly made copy of the original and do not function well. Find a good rebuilt original. the port you have blocked on the pump is the overflow that in the event of a ruptured diaphragm allows the fuel to go into the carburetor...

    Mercruiser Spark plug broken

Judging from your writing, English isnt your first language, so you likely live in a country that uses the metric system. Not a bad thing, but your engine is USA made, and will have a mix of SAE standard and metric fasteners in it. You will need to invest in a tool kit that has both to easily...

    MR-1 U Joint Bellows Leak

I would do whatever I could to try and ensure the bellows doesn’t pop loose on the trip, be it zip ties (sketchy, but should work) or fishing a new clamp in there. It may be cold water and a PITA, but so is sinking or flooding out the boat….. at least it’s on a hoist, and not in the water ATM….

    Bravo 1 low water pressure

You may have hit on your issue when you stated there is no issue on muffs. As stated the muffs are pressure feeing the pump. In the lake you don’t have that, so I would be checking the suction side of the pump for air leaks. It won’t take much to ruin your suction and cause flow issues.

I may need to shim the upper sterndrive questions.

The tools are not going to be “cheap”, especially for a one time use deal. If it were mine, I would mike out the shims and replace with new. There should be someplace left on the shims that is flat enough to get a spec on them. OTOH, $200 for a “good working” upper may just be too good a deal to...

    Will this fit?

The part number is a Merc number, so should fit your drive. IIRC the gen 2 is still 15 splines, so any prop that fits the earlier gen outdrives and a good number of outboards will work. You will need a thrust washer and lock washer kit to mount, but if you have a prop on your drive that should...

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

yes, any 302 should work fine with the caveats Danforth posted above. I would gravitate towards a carbed engine for your application. 351W engines typically came with a 2bbl carb, but there are plenty of aftermarket 4bbl options out there that will work just as good for your application...
