    Out on the Lake Pictures

Yes, last year this time the lake was about 70-75% full, this year it’s right at about 99% and monsoon season is starting soon. We had a wet winter that really filled up a lot of the reservoirs

    letting in water around motor

this would be my first guess as well. bellows need attention, and before it gets any worse..... if you have a leak now, you are a bilge pump failure away from a VERY bad day

    Mercrusier MC 1 outdrive

my boat is same vintage as OP, with the Merc 120 setup. As soon as I find a donor boat close by with the same/similar setup, Im gonna snag it up for spares..... things arent getting any easier to find, shipping isnt getting any faster, and a "simple" failure on this old equipment can be season...

Where can I find the oil filter?

i cant help but think we are being trolled here. Knows enough to suck the oil out, but cannot find the oil filter on one of the most popular types of I/O out there. When given instructions on where it is, attempts to remove the exhaust manifold to access the filter..... last post cinches it...

Where can I find the oil filter?

if it were mine, and the filter were hidden like that, I would be installing a remote filter mount..... Cry once installing it, and never again.....

Where can I find the oil filter?

same location as every Chevrolet based V-6 or V-8 used on boats. as Danforth said, its on the left side of the block at the oil pan rail. UNDER your left side exhaust manifold. You will find your starter in the same spot on the other side of the block. Depending on the design of your stringers...

    Thrust washer…..

When changing between props and prop brands is it usually necessary to change/replace the thrust washer, or are the props made to work with the “stock” washer unless otherwise noted? Last outing we spun the prop, leaving some wear on the thrust washer. Now I’m slightly gunshy about the setup...

    Black flakes

the exhaust isnt..... right near the exhaust port in the head will still get hot enough to burn off the paint. Check the underside of your manifolds, and I bet you find the source

    Power Boat sinks in Michigan

not gonna get into a **** measuring contest, but if things go sideways, I WILL be talking in an elevated tone of voice (AKA YELLING) where things are, to remind those who didnt pay attention before the brown stuff hit the fan..... I dont have time in an emergency to have a long polite...

    How did this happen?

cant speak intelligently about how it happened, but to get it off, you may just have to back a bit deeper in the water. As long as the boat still floats, use that to your advantage. If there is a "steeper" boat ramp in the area, that would help as well getting more weight off the trailer. A...

    Power Boat sinks in Michigan

the vid here kind of irritates me...... the person on the camera was too damn busy trying to get their social media hits, and being a monday morning quarterback to actually help. Not looking for someone to throw them a dockline, nor anything else remotely helpful, just sittin there filming it...

    Power Boat sinks in Michigan

two things a responsible operator should be YELLING at the passengers while trying to get as close to help as possible when the defecation hits the rotating oscillator. My boat is small, so its all in a tote right in the middle of the seating area. I dont have any cubbies to hide it in...

spun prop hub, or bad coupler... how to easily tell the difference....or can you?

I figure a couple of emails are cheap, see what they have to say. Im already picking up a spare MW on ebay for a good price. I wont leave the dock without a spare now......

does this prop seem "reasonable" for this combination?

well, this is what we did today...... worked great, right up until the hub spun...... well, so much for that... time to find a prop shop to rehub the damn thing now.....

    Ok. Trailer time!

here in AZ, you can apply for a bonded title if the original is lost and/or the previous owner is no longer living. You buy the bond insurance, they issue title in your name, and if nobody contests it in a certain time frame, you can drop the bond. perhaps your state offers a similar process...

spun prop hub, or bad coupler... how to easily tell the difference....or can you?

well, we have a confirmed kill...... Whipped off the prop nut, and this is what I found.... thrust washer mating face SHINY BRASS (was tarnished when installed).... and a fresh "ring" on the lock nut side..... again, not there when installed. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a spun prop hub...

spun prop hub, or bad coupler... how to easily tell the difference....or can you?

that sounds EXACTLY like what I had happen...... Yay, blown trip caused by my own hand changing something that "wasnt broken"...... well, if it aint broke, fix it till it is......

spun prop hub, or bad coupler... how to easily tell the difference....or can you?

ok, went out to the lake this morning, ready for a morning of enjoyment and boating. Pulled off of the dock, got up to about 3200rpm cruising speed and all was well for about 5 minutes, then the RPM took off, and the boat dropped off plane. No obvious sounds from the engine bay, and no smell of...

    Early EZ Shift outdrive questions

how screwed you are depends on how well it comes off the transom. If there is still some stub showing on the other side, it could be a heat and remove type deal, if not, you are looking at likely drilling and rethreading the hole. Both will be a PITA, but still a LOT cheaper than a full on new...
