    Gimbal Bearing Noise?

Put new gimbal bearing in the freezer overnight before installing. It shrinks and makes a noticeable difference installing the new bearing. And believe me its a tight fit. There are you tube videos on removing the shift lever. I believe you take a chisel and hammer and split the lever in 2...

1993 5.7 Mercruiser Low Power and Stumble at WOT

Somebody smarter than me will chime in but it could just need a carb rebuild. My 4.3 with a 2 bbl carb was running like crap. A rebuild solved all my issues. Lack of power, bogging ETC. I've had my boat for 10 years and this is the second rebuild I've done. Both times it ran like a new boat...

    Changing to stainless steel prop

Years ago I switched to a Stainless prop. Sure enough I bottomed out on a rocky bottom and bent the shaft. Never again. I'll take a loss of like a 1/2 MPH with a disposable $100 aluminum prop over an outdrive rebuild.

Mercarb idle speed screw and adjustment

I thought this had to be done in the water idling in forward gear? I see no mention of that. Is that correct?

using pneumatic brake bleeder for oil?

I have the pump in the link. I'm wondering if it would work to suck the oil out the motor. The dipstick rusted so using the screw top way won't work and I need to send a tube down the dipstick into the oil pan. I was going to order a 12 volt oil extractor which is cheap enough but I already...

    Gimbal Bearing Noise?

Don't forget to get a hinge pin tool. Be very careful with the trim sending limit wires. There is a bracket that holds them in on top of the unit. It is literally impossible to get one of the bolts out to change the wires. My wires turned to dust when I messed with them so bought new...

    Gimbal Bearing Noise?

I just did an outdrive oil change today. I was getting vibrations and noise that sounded like the gimbal bearing. The noise and vibrations are gone after the oil change Probably had 1/3 water to oil in the drive. It's a 10 minute job and your outdrive will thank you either way. May be your issue

    Harbor Freight Trac Racks

Thinking about picking these up but they look really tall. Tighter to the cab roof would look the best I believe they are 4 inches taller the the actual Trac Rac brand according to the specs. 34" vs 30" Anyone buy these and have an opinion...

    surging after carb rebuild

It's a brand new fuel pump. Would the test pickup an air leak in the line dropping the pressure? Could you give me some insight how to do the test. I've never done a fuel pressure test. Where does it attach? Do I need an adaptor? Will an auto tester work? I would think it's the same It's a...

    surging after carb rebuild

Actually could it be a clogged gas tank vent line? The boat sat for 5 hours before starting for the return trip and it starting surging immediately upon giving it gas. I would think it would have had plenty of time to depressurize if the vent was the issue.

    surging after carb rebuild

Fist run of the season with last years gas after a full carb rebuild Brand new fuel pump and water separator The boat ran perfect for about 20 minutes. Then on the return trip to the ramp it was surging what seems like the exact timing with the fuel pump pumping. Consistent with no hesitation...

    What size drag link socket

AHHH.....I was reading people recommend an impact screwdriver and I thought they meant an impact screw gun. Are those bits it comes with big enough for the large groove in the screw or is it sloppy?

    What size drag link socket

1990 Alpha one Gen one I can't get the drain plug out on my outdrive. I'm reading a drag link socket is the tool to use but they come in all different sizes. Obviously I want one that will fill the groove tight What size should I get for a tight fit? Biggest screwdriver I have didn't work. I...

Installing my carpet tomorrow on my deck. It's wide open flat except for 16" up the walls so should be pretty simple ( I hope) About 7x7 I could roll it with a paint roller or use my never used HF Spray gun Which would be kinda fun What do you recommend? Any tips besides laying it all out...

Thanks for the replies. Took the carb back off ripped it apart and adjust the float to the MM. Then checked 5 more times. Fired right up and purrin like a kitten On a side note, Anyone watching Mike's Carb rebuild video on YouTube, When he's adjusting the float and says " forget what what...
