Cables for 4000 Gen 2 controller

Is the Seastar CC189 series my only option or are there other generic universal cables? Any numbers or links if there are? Seems strange that's my only option but it's all that comes up in my search

    What shifter/throttle cables

I'm doing some research. It looks like 600A cables have the Mercruiser ends and 33c are universal.. "Extreme" are have a tighter bend radius and seem to be better than the standard cables. I'm going to get Seastar 600A Which I believe are OEM or close enough and standard type cables for my...

    What shifter/throttle cables

Do the Mercruiser ends have anything to do with the numbers like 33c and 3300 or are those for the controller side?

    What shifter/throttle cables

1990 4.3 carbed engine I just bought new controls and want to get new cables. I'm seeing Extreme, Red Jacket among others. What are decent cables and which numbers/style do I need. 660A..33c among all the others numbers available?

Throttle lever issues. Replace or repair

I actually have the original service manual for the controller. Ya you pull it out for neutral. I pulled it out of the boat. There are exactly zero parts available for this controller anywhere...I'm looking for a new controller now. Everything I read seems like I should buy a OEM controller and...

Throttle lever issues. Replace or repair

Again, it goes in reverse fine. No grinding, pops right in as it should and stays in gear while I rev it up. The issue is I need to hold the throttle in with one hand while putting it in reverse or the throttle will stay in pulled out neutral position. Meaning it a 2 handed operation to put it...

Throttle lever issues. Replace or repair

If I push the throttle lever in it works fine stays in gear and revs up and everything else.. with no grinding going into gear.. I'm thinking it has to have something to do with the old lever

Throttle lever issues. Replace or repair

33-year-old Morse throttle lever. After lay-up issues. New lower cable a couple years ago. Goes into forward fine does not go into reverse unless I push on the centerpiece while engaging. Then it works fine but not something I want to deal with on the ramp. Nothing is grinding I'm confident...

    Gimbal bearing. Is this normal?

Ok good, what's your feeling on aftermarket bearings? There are those that will only swear by OEM stuff. I'm not one of them. Any real life experience with the cheaper ones? I only put around 15 running hours a year and pull the drive every year to inspect everything

    Gimbal bearing. Is this normal?

Is this normal for a greasable gimbal bearing? One side is open slightly which looks like it will let grease through. The rest of the hole looks sealed. Should there be a hole for the grease to flow to the bearing or is this normal. If it's not normal anyone have a pic of a greaseable gimbal...

Should I grease upper gear case housing before install?

The split ring doesn't clip into anything. It just slides in with the shims and can go in either way. I "think" it went in first but wasn't paying attention when I pulled it out

Should I grease upper gear case housing before install?

I Replaced the upper seal on an Alpha one Gen one. The one that goes on the yoke. Before reinstalling should I grease the housing or the outside of the bearing pack? If so do I use grease or outdrive oil or does it slide in dry Also, My shim pack has 3 shims that stayed together from the grease...

Changing upper oil seal in Mercruiser alpha one

I have the parts to rebuild this and will be doing it this week. Assuming I have the old style bearing if I torque the nut to 70 Ft/LB do I still need need to check the rolling torque? I'll double check but I think it's 5/6 IN/LB with the old style bearing. I believe that requires a dial torque...

    Quicksilver 5W30 for all sterndrives

I always ran Rotella T6 15w40 for years. The 5w30 seems to crank and start easier which is a good thing. I was worried about the thinner oil but havent noticed any bad effects. The oil at the end of the season was still golden after a few WOT runs last year which I normally avoid but was feeling...

    Quicksilver 5W30 for all sterndrives

Quicksilver 5W30 for ALL sterndrives. What happened to only using 25w40? I've been using 5w30 full synthetic oil for the last few years in my 4.3. This debate has been going on forever and now Quicksilver which is synonymous with Mercury is making a lower viscosity oil for Mercruisers...has it...

    Oil Filter, alt brands

Any brand auto filters will work, If your really worried watch the Youtube videos when they cut them open and compare. For the amount of running time a year most boats get it's most definitely a mute point either way. Ranks up there with what's your favorite oil brand

Risers and manifolds at the same time?

Mine is a 2 piece wet riser/manifold. I haven't heard the term batwing before. Is that a one piece riser manifold?

Risers and manifolds at the same time?

It's in salt water but I trailer and flush as soon as I get home religiously since day one. It's a 32 year old 4.3 but was fresh water only till I got it 10 years ago. I don't even want to think about needing a new motor. Would be game over for the boat

Risers and manifolds at the same time?

Why are they usually changed at the same time? If there is no water in the manifold shouldn't it last far longer than the risers? Is it just because of where they mate together being rusted out or corroded? If that area is good do they need to be changed out with a riser swap?
