    Replacing transom foam seal

What about getting them off if they are in with adhesive? Don't want to scrap the housing with a tool and obviously want the housing perfectly clean/smooth without foam remnants

    Replacing transom foam seal

The motor is out so it's an empty cavity. I was thinking about replacing the trim hoses. They look fine but I assume they are as old as the boat (25 years) With the motor out I would think it would be easy to do to just slide them out?? Do trim hoses pretty much last forever

    Replacing transom foam seal

Getting a new/used transom assembly. 1995. If the foam seems to be in good shape should I leave it? Does it bounce back when removed and recompress correctly or is it a one and done part. Hearing its glued in and a PITA to remove. If I need to remove it any pointers to make it easier? Someone...

    Bottom paint around transom assembly

I'm replacing this transom assemply. I reading the bottom paint should not be touching assembly as it transfers electric to the outdrive eating it. Whats the best way to remove one inch of paint around the assembly and have it look clean not all uneven. Hearing evertything from soda blasting to...

    Removing transom bolts Gen 2

What about stripping or partially stripping the threads on the housing. The aluminum is going to give before the stud. It it a real concern or does it not happen often

    Removing transom bolts Gen 2

How difficult is it to remove rusted mounting bolts on a Gen 2 transom assembly. I just bought a used unit and some need to be changed. Are they in with loc tight? Do the housing threads strip out easy making the housing useless? Six bolts are the only thing stopping the boat from sinking and...

    Oil pan bolts

Merc bolts are obscenely expensive at around $12 each for a 1/4" bolt. What are my options for the same grade/quality bolt. Merc# is 14070. It's for a 5.0. Any links would be great, autozone Napa, Amazon ETC.

    Marine or Auto oil pan

What about baffles to keep the oil from sloshing around? I thought marine pans were different from auto even though they might bolt up the same? Something about a plate not fitting with the auto pan?

    Marine or Auto oil pan

It's a 1998 5.0.... Is a 5.7 a 5.0 the same pan? I didn't realize just finding a same year 5.0 in an auto pan would work. Thought there might be differences

    Marine or Auto oil pan

I've seen the Merc # but how do I cross that over to an automotive pan? My concern with doing it on the hoist was gravity working against me with the gasket

    Marine or Auto oil pan

Pulling motor due to oil pan rust leak on a 25 year old boat. I thought I read you can use an auto pan and paint 3 times with rustoleum or spray bedliner. Trailering so it's not in salt air 99% of the year. Mercruiser Motor serial# 0l072052. Any help with part number for what I need? Fel pro...

Is this trim end cap usable?

I'm replacing the seals (o rings) in the cap. Not sure if the pitting shown matters

Sunday bump....Anyone familiar with rebuilding trim cylinders?

Is this trim end cap usable?

EDIT: It's metal on metal so it seems like a little pitting wouldn't matter regarding leaks? Also the scraper has lots of play inside the end cap, not even close to a tight fit but it fits extremely tight on the piston. It's the right rebuild kit so I guess that's normal?? It extremely tight on...

Is this trim end cap usable?

Alpha1 Gen2 Can I still use this trim cylinder end cap? I scraped out as much salt as I could with a pic and wire brush. It's not smooth where the scraper will sit.

Alpha 1 Gen 2 trim seal replacement

I'm doing a trim cylinder seal replacement. Not taking off lines so it's on the boat. I got the end cap off easily. When I started to pull the piston out the fluid started pouring out tilted up. I pushed it back in and tightened to cap for now. Should I extend the trim all the way out first to...

    Possible trim line snowballing nightmare?

Mercruiser Gen 2. I believe I need to redo the seals on the cylinders. The nuts are frozen. If I strip the threads on the cylinders or lines then I need to change the braided lines. The braided lines all connect to a plate under the transom assembly. If those strip I need to change that plate. I...
