    1991 mercury tilt problems

https://www.amazon.com/Marine-Tech-Tools-Mercury-Lifting/dp/B01MU6R12Q So you need something like this. I'm not sure or your dimensions. The flywheel puller I bought is 1 1/2" - 16. This says 1 1/2" so I'm guessing the thread count is the same as the puller since it's for Mercury engines.

    1991 mercury tilt problems

Check out my video I sent the link for repairing the O-Rings. I was able to do it all without lifting the motor off the transom. When you remove the pin connecting the piston (shock rod) to the motor the entire trim lowers down. Be ready for fluid to come out.

    1991 mercury tilt problems

On the left side of your transom mount is a tilt lock. On the bottom right of the mount is a white nylon pressure release screw. Turn it counterclockwise and then you can lift the motor and flip the tilt lock to hold it in place. I'm not sure why you need the flywheel tool and I don't have a...

    1991 mercury tilt problems

Here's a link to a video of the wires on mine. Maybe that can help too You can find the part you need at the Mercury parts site. You need your motor's serial number to get the right part https://www.mercurymarine.com/en/us/parts-and-accessories/parts-catalog

    1991 mercury tilt problems

Here's a HD picture of mine. There's 4 years difference in our models so allow for that. It would be great if you can find someone with another 91

    1991 mercury tilt problems

It comes from the battery to the starter solenoid then up to each trim solenoid. They are both hot with the key off. I don't know why you have 3 wires on the lower solenoid. I wonder what they connect to. They're much heavier too, maybe 10 gauge? Mine are about 12 and the bottom one has 2 but...

    1991 mercury tilt problems

I have a Youtube video on rebuilding the power trim and tilt, but it's for the hydraulics. You must have a tilt motor problem. On the trim solenoids, top is up, bottom is down. Each solenoid has 2 wires on right side. Top solenoid is ground over hot (tilt switch up), bottom solenoid is hot over...

    Reliable sure lube hubs

I have a 95 Ranger Trail and it has a similar operation to the Sure Seal/Dexter axles. Instead of a grease fitting I have to use a kind of needle to force grease through the end of the axle. I keep pumping and it eventually forces old grease out around the end of the axle and outer bearing. But...

    Reliable sure lube hubs

I totally agree with you. I thought that's what I was saying. It's certainly what I meant. Maybe the confusion is because I said that when you have this metal cap and put grease into the fitting, the only route is through the outer bearing to the inner bearing. There's no exit for the grease...

Does the switch box impact the rev limiter?

I put the OEM switch box back on and reconnected the 3 year old rev limiter. It stalled at 5000 RPM. I told the vendor it's not the switch box since behavior is the same for old and new. I bought another rev limiter and tried it out today; same thing. It stalls at 5,000 RPM ($104 down the...

    1995 Mercury 2+2 Help needed

I think our motors are pretty much the same. Mine is an early 1995, made in fall 1994. I took delivery about September 1994. I have the coils and not CDM. If your tach isn't working and the gauge itself is good, it's possible the voltage regulator is bad. Check the voltage output at the battery...

    1995 Mercury 2+2 Help needed

Lisle has an inexpensive spark gap tester, about $11 on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002STSC6 When you replaced the plugs, did you put any dielectric grease on the plugs or wires? If so, clean all of that off. Dielectric is non-conductive. It goes on the boot and plug ceramic...

    Disc Brake Identification

I use the Evinrude grease on the Mercury prop shaft to prevent seizing. I use Lucas green Xtra HD grease in the trailer hubs and bearings. I use Lucas Red 'n Tacky on the 4Runner drive shaft U-Joints. Good stuff, even in fresh water :)

    Reliable sure lube hubs

That's true, if the OP had the Sure Lube axle, but in his post he said he doesn't have the rubber dust cap cover with the grease fitting underneath. He said he has just the metal dust cap, no rubber cover, exposed grease fitting. I included a picture of that type in my post. The metal dust cap...

    Reliable sure lube hubs

From what I see with some research, this Reliable Sure-Lube is a grease cap. It's not the same thing as the Reliable/Dexter Axle lube, which has a grease fitting on the end of the axle. With the Reliable or Dexter you push grease in the fitting, It goes through the axle to the rear bearing...

    Disc Brake Identification

If you've ever had to change a boat trailer tire on the side of the Interstate you'll be happy if you do something to make it easier. Take the wheel off and clean the threads on the studs and lugs-Do not grease them. I had a situation where, after years of not removing a wheel, I had an...

    Hub/rotor won’t fit properly - thoughts?

Have you tried Dexter Axle? I had a heck of a time finding a hub/rotor for my 1994/95 Ranger trailer. OEM developed a crack in the rotor. I did a lot of searching but finally found a set that matched mine for everything except the grease seal. https://www.dexteraxle.com

Does the Lower engine mount wear out?

I was able to get a half turn on each, maybe 3/4, but that seems to have taken up the movement. I'll know more when I get it on the water. Thanks to everyone for the help.
