    Evinrude 25202r WOT adjustment

I took the boat back down to the campground yesterday, but will probably be back this weekend. Last time I did a compression test, it was an average of 85-90 on both cylinders. Will try to find my inline spark tester too, but since it's firing up and running, I didn't think there was a problem...

    Evinrude 25202r WOT adjustment

Now that I have this motor running again, I need to do some adjustments. I had the carburetor off to clean it and it doesn't seem to be getting anywhere close to WOT. I had some diagrams at one time showing the two timing marks in relation to the arm with the roller, I think called the cam follower?

They seem like a simple but solid design. I bought this motor for $600 for a 14' fishing boat. As long as it gets me out in the lake to fish I'm happy.

I want to thank you and Crosbyman and others for all the advice. Not having a lot of experience working on an outboard motor, I feel like I have a better understanding of how it works. I'm the kind of guy that prefers to work on my own stuff, be it truck, motorcycle, riding mower, household...

    Evinrude 25202r no spark

Yeah, I saw the tip of one was torn off. I found that one piece though. OK, so now I know how to change the impeller rather than paying a shop $120 an hour. It should be changed every 2 years or so?

Ok. So far, not too hard. Old one vs. New

    Evinrude 25202r no spark

Quick question. Getting ready to pull the lower unit to change the impeller. The linkage for the shaft looks different than the video I watched. Instead of two nuts you disconnect, each fitting has a screw, like a set screw?

    Evinrude 25202r no spark

I will post a photo of it when I get it out. I was planning to replace it anyway.

    Evinrude 25202r no spark

Well I meant to say it was less than 30 seconds the first time. Probably not more than 5-10 seconds. Then I had the motor sitting in a large trash can of water when I cranked it the second time and let it run several minutes. I'm going to drop the foot this weekend and replace the impeller anyway.

I've got one to replace it. May do that this weekend if it warms up.

    Evinrude 25202r no spark

So I put the foot in a big trash can and filled with water. Cranked it and let it run 3 or 4 minutes. I may be back in business.

    Evinrude 25202r no spark

I got it to start! I only let it run about 30 seconds because I did not have it in a barrel of water. Gonna try that next.

Ordered a used 6-25 hp HV wiring harness from eBay, so it measures .7 on my fluke on both wires. I'm ready to swap out the other one and see if I'm measuring resistance thru both coils now instead of just the one...BTW the metal tag near the boot on one wire that says UP, that is for the top plug?

What should resistance thru the coils read? One set is roughly .6 and another set is 1.8

I've serviced copiers and printers for 26 years, before that photo lab equipment. I can work on my F150 and Explorer, even riding mower. Outboard motor is a brand new experience but I'm learning as I go along. I appreciate all the help I get from this forum.

    Evinrude 25202r no spark

I have another question. If the HV lead is bad, and they're no longer available as a OMC part, can you just buy a single spark plug wire from Autozone? I had to do that on my golf cart and it runs just fine.

I appreciate all your help, will work on it more when I get in from work tomorrow.

    Evinrude 25202r no spark

Seeing these photos start to make sense. I measured resistance of both coils from the ground lead of the coil to the lead going to the points and condenser and got .7 on each, does this mean both coils are good? So I may have a break in the HV wire, which is basically a spark plug wire? I have a...
