a carburetor shouldn't spill fuel like this, right?

Yes...I think. That was running on the stand, and recurred even after I pulled the carb to recheck the float. So replaced pump. Didn't do it again, but replaced the pump after noticing low psi. Low psi on 3rd pump as well, but said screw it and gave it a shot. It happened again intermittently...

    120 HP mercruiser 153 ci 2.5 L issues

    1. Did you set the dwell, then set timing? 2. Did you check gas for water? If it's significant, the Seafoam and dry gas won't do anything. 3. Did you adjust the mixture on the carb?

    carburetor suspect problems

Who knows? You still haven't told us what carb you're using. And afaik no mercs came with manual chokes.

a carburetor shouldn't spill fuel like this, right?

I'm on my 3rd Carter pump. First put out 8psi, 2nd and 3rd each at 2.5 psi. Which is I guess enough to pressure to fill the bowl. And apparently the pressure isn't related to the volume Shouldn't surprise you that that was me :)

a carburetor shouldn't spill fuel like this, right?

Hopefully only for testing, and hopefully you can see why it's a bad idea to do that.

Mercruiser 170 runs bad when hot - voltage regulator issue?

Yes, failed regulator will cause an overcharge. I'm surprised you got it to start after replacing the points and not adjusting them.

a carburetor shouldn't spill fuel like this, right?

Also, you're miswired somewhere. Your fuel pump shouldn't run with the engine off. This is exactly why...

Engine inspection tips for used 4.3L V6 or 305/350 V8 equipped mercruiser I/O setups.

No reason you can't compression test. 30-60 min. I would also say that I'll buy the boat if a water test checks out...

    Any upstate NYers around?

Wow, great suggestions! My wife is from Watertown, been a few times. Her family had an island up in Alexandria bay that they sold 10 years or so ago. Makes me sad. We actually did a road trip up there in the fall. I've done the boat museum before (obviously going to do that, right?) Crossed the...

    Any upstate NYers around?

No boat, no kids. Just a convertible and my wife. :) But yeah, also realizing that there's a whole huge lake right there, I'm sure there's cool stuff there, right?

Also, as far as testing the gauges, the wiring to the plug looks standard: blue-light, black-ground, purple -12v, last wire -sender.

    Any upstate NYers around?

Looking for somewhere to stay for a night on the way to Toronto. Probably somewhere in the vicinity of 219, maybe 1-3 hours south of Niagara falls. Any cool little towns, b&b's, little lakes, etc?

    1990 Wellcraft 223 Eclipse

Flat section could be custom made by a glass shop for short money. Curved, not as easy. If that piece was purchased through Taylor made, then yeah, gonna be spendy regardless of the shape

alpha 1 gen 1 outdrive issue

IIRC that was in the tub for a while. If it wasn't getting water should have been toast.

Probe the drains with some wire or something; scale can keep the engine from draining.
