Changing V4 crossflow from pre-mix air cleaner fuel pump mount to pulse pump

On a 1991 V4 crossflow, if I change to using a pulse pump and cap off the VRO vacuum port with NPT cap, do I have to fabricate a new fuel rail/manifold so it feeds from the bottom or can I make a NPT U with barbs on it to prevent constriction at the bends so I can use the existing VRO fuel...

1990 90HP Pontoon, 4300 RPM at WOT, Do I need a new prop?

+1 to this. 13 in diameter with 13 pitch is probably exactly what will be the overall recommendation. Boats less than 140 HP doesn't get much benefit from stainless steel prop, unless the OP wants to spend more to get stainless and not aluminum or composite. When boats get into the higher HP...

1982 OMC 90 HP V4, won't start in the water

Compression is about the engine's ability to do work. The weaker compression is the less the engine is able to pull in air, compress it, light the gas, expel that energy into work. When an engine operates in water or under load, there is resistance against the engine. A smaller amount when...

    1978 Islander 22 I/O

Do you mean the mercruiser transom assembly housing bolts or are you referring to bolt hardware for securing wood to the hull for front engine mounts?

1986 90hp johnson primer bulb collapsing..hear me out

VRO fuel pump used by Evinrude/Johnson for this engine is a single unit assembly. For more questions involving this, I suggest opening a new topic. Otherwise it may be considered thread hijacking by the moderators. The parts diagram used for ordering parts would be a powerful clue if looked...

1986 90hp johnson primer bulb collapsing..hear me out

Other than what Jimbo mentioned in loosening the fill cap on fuel tank to rule out tank vent issues, everyone's recommendations have been dancing around the necessary test. Do you have higher than 4 inches of vacuum on the fuel line going to the outboard when engine is running? If so you have...

1986 90hp johnson primer bulb collapsing..hear me out

Use test tank with its own hose and connection to see if primer bulb collapses due to engine running. If issue remains, then your fuel issue is in the outboard side of things. There's no point in chasing after the fuel lines and tank because you just proved the issue is in your outboard. If...

Evinrude 150 xp 1990 trim switch blowing fuse.

There is an easy way to narrow this down. When you disconnect the trim wire plug (not the red harness plug) going to the boat, does the fuse blow when you use the trim switch on the bottom cowling of the outboard? If it does, then the short is behind that trim plug for the trim relay wiring...

    1978 Islander 22 I/O

Front engine stringer mounts, drilling the extra two transom assembly mounting bolt holes needed, electrical, steering, control box, and fabricating a new engine cover is about it if everything is working as expected. The rest you would have to perform regardless of whether it was a conversion...

    Arcadia/Traverse Suitability?

If you only have 5 total including driver to deal with in seating, I fail to see a valid reason in avoiding a truck, put a bed cover on if you need dry storage that can lock. Or at least get a GMC/,Chevy Tahoe built to tow. A naturally aspirated V6 is anemic when towing 3500 lbs on anywhere...

    Fuse Panel Setup 89 Islander

+1 If you haven't been informed/got the memo, most boats never have any wire diagram. Only a rare few have anything on record. Generally the documentation is limited to the drive system/engine itself which is not dependant on the boat/standardized.

    1991 mercury sounding rough? fixes?

That is what most 2 stroke carb'd outboards sound like under low idle out of the water (no backpressure/load). The real test is how it sounds in the water and in gear. If it falls flat and stalls out or varies RPM wildly under low idle under load, then you need to do some investigation...

should i cut the floor back ?

The more you make it look like factory/original the better. It doesn't have to look "antique" but it better match the form and fitment, because if it looks like a hack job with permenant changes that can't be fixed and you try to sell it, people will push the price down alot from the fair...

    1978 Islander 22 I/O

+1 to this. If you're going to spend a lot of coin +$4k or more in I/O engine and drive, go the alpha one gen 2 route with 4.3 V6 vortec. Otherwise best to stick with 120/140 and you could find a alpha one gen one complete donor drive system to upgrade to. Things on the GM inline 4 cylinder...

    1978 Islander 22 I/O

Down in the mid South everyone thinks old boats in poor condition are made of solid gold and not even close to NADA estimated values or local market conditions for private party sales. This islander with a bad outdrive or bad engine in this condition would likely be listed for $2.8k to $3k...

    1974 Chieftain 25 "Adventurer" Restoration

This is because the old method of making pressure treated wood with arsenic or other highly toxic chemicals is banned in the US and likely most places in the world. They use copper based chemical compounds to treat the wood instead of that highly toxic stuff. It reacts strongly when in contact...

    1989 Evinrude 88SPL (E88MSLCER) Cooling

While the engine running. If you took a jumper and plugged in the black/yellow wire bullet connector tied to the power pack and you short it to ground, if the ignition does not shut off when held to ground, you have a bad power pack. There is no further need to investigate the kill circuit for...

    1989 Evinrude 88SPL (E88MSLCER) Cooling

If the ignition shuts off when you ground the yellow/black kill circuit wire from the power pack to ground it is an issue in your wiring harness or ignition key that is in the boat. If the engine keeps running after grounding kill circuit wire to ground, you have a bad power pack.

    1989 Evinrude 88SPL (E88MSLCER) Cooling

Since this is a new to you outboard. #1. Compression check on all cylinders. Post the numbers. They should all be with 10% of each other and above 110 PSI. Some low quality gauges read low. No point in throwing money at it if you got 60PSI on one and the others are fine. If the head...
