    Unless the boat has been thrown off a cliff, it should run pretty much like it did in 1956. I spent many a days on the water in grand dads. These boats were a little tippy for my liking, but they lasted forever. It should scoot right along with the 9.5, if it is running well.

    Suspect the heavy load was enough to spin the prop hub. Try another prop like Racerone suggested.

    Yes, many of us have seen the fuel line delamination and subsequent clogged fuel system, Clogged carbs can cause lean running condition. And non E resistant fuel pump diaphragms kind of dissolve. Have also seen the fuel go gooy.

    Does the motor run? Have you checked the fluid level? Should be easy to check the relay. Simply swap the 2 relays. If the relay is bad, the motor should raise, but not lower.

    That motor had 3 different tilt systems. If the trim motor is next to the transom bracket, do as QBoy said. There is a large hex he'd plug on the side of the trim motor.     Shouldn't be a problem with any standard tach. Maybe tell us what tachs you have tried? Stator aims shouldn't matters the signal comes from the voltage rectifier. What does it do or not do when installed? Is it getting a signal from the engine? No offense but are you sure of the year? 1996...

    Did you remove the shift shaft pivot screw near the front of the gear case, by accident? The fill and vent screws are on the side. The pivot screw is toward the front.

    Could have been a 1973 model, but built before November 1, 1972, then it wouldn't have a HIN. Otherwise, top starboard corner of the transom. No secondary location back then..
