    Assuming your model is NSD50A. That's NOT an NS50D. It's a TLDI. The up and down solenoids are different parts.

    What exact model (not year)? Is your oil level too high? Yes, there is an adapter to attach the EFI motors to a laptop, but it's not cheap.

    Why pull the lower case? But if you do, yes, the gear will fall off. You can invert the whole thing and the gear will stay on the shaft by gravity.

    The black oil is likely unburned tcw-3 oil. typical. Likely need an LU seal kit. And clean and adjust the carb.

    Year is irrelevant; Model is critical. The reverse latch is a pair of hooks that likely would work by gravity, but there are a pair of springs to guarantee it latches in reverse.

    F type is tiller P type is remote. Perhaps the starter wire is disconnected or the starter motor has an issue.

    Carb opening more will not increase power. Never saw oil injection fail on one of those.
