One solution for adding a ski pylon

Nothing but opinion to back my thought, but if that were my install, that pole would be much shorter (1/2?) - to reduce the leverage on the hull and the load on the tube itself. That's me though.... Question being, how high is high enough?

Honda bf50 spark and carb issues

First, good news and bad news. Bad is I doubt seriously you're looking at an '06 set of carbs. Good news is that's a good thing! The '06 and 7 carbs are a plumber's nightmare that use an automatic choke. A complete PIA when not working right. The carbs with manual choke used up through '05 or so...

    Repairing Plexiglass Windshield

Here's how I drill that kind of stuff. Tiny pilot hole. Maybe 1/8". Then drill maybe a 1/4 of the way through from both sides using light pressure and a sharp bit. Final drill is done in reverse using light pressure. Idea is to get the drill bit and plastic hot enough to burn your way through...

Honda bf50 spark and carb issues

I can tell you that cylinder 1 not firing WILL NOT have anything to do with cyl # 2 leaking. From there I need to know what year motor you have? Is it an '05 or older, or '06-'07? Burnt coil doesn't look good, but I can tell you that problems like that are pretty unusual. I have to wonder what...

    Outboard exhaust drifts towards cockpit

You MIGHT notice something right after start up when the motor is rich after being choked. After it warms, I don't notice even a hint of smell.

    Crestliner aluminum corrosion

Prior to getting into a serious DIY transom replacement/repair, I would have a couple of welder/fab guys look at it, with an eye toward replacing that entire transom. Big project for sure, but done properly it shouldn't need doing again for the life of the boat.

    Outboard exhaust drifts towards cockpit

Exhaust smell (stink) while idling with the boat moving down wind is a 2 stroke "feature" that can be eliminated totally with a move to a 4 stroke. You would NOT be the first to do that for that reason - especially among pontoon boat owners.....

Does this oil look bad to you? (white smoke coming out of breather tube)

That moisture build up is seen frequently when people get a new boat and start it up just to listen to it run for a minute, then shut it down without properly warming/running under load. I'd check it again after you've had a chance to get it in the water and run it for a good hour to get all...

    Prop ?

I find it pretty interesting as well! 6200 rpm and 20 mph don't sound right to me either. But until we know more (like prop dimensions for instance) and maybe get those speed/rpm numbers verified, it is what it is. Our 90 hp Honda (4 stroke) powered 24' toon is good for 24-25 mph@6200 rpm with...

    Party Deck 21 Fuel Tank

If this is the boat I think it is, it's one of several aluminum deck boats built under different brand names (Grumman and Lowe are 2 others) by OMC. I have a 19' and a 22' and have had the tanks out of both of them to replumb. The tank is 30 gallons I believe, and is located below the floor (not...

    Radio drains battery

Generally a radio CAN run a battery down, but it's going to take months, not hours. A master switch on the battery the radio is connected to can solve that issue,

    Boat Flooring

Sometimes what you are using as a new covering will determine how well the surface needs to be prepped/leveled. A thin vinyl for instance, will show any imperfections much easier than carpet....

    Prop ?

I agree. No stainless prop required to make a pontoon boat as fast as possible. If it's a 4 stroke I would try to get the rpm down to 5500 or so, to make the motor sound less busy. It'll make at least very similar power and speed, but could be a mile or 2 an hour faster. If you are

Shocks AND leaf springs on my trailer??

My vote - take the shock brackets off and throw them away. Talk to Dexter Axle directly if you need a hand. Order new axle w/hubs to fit your wheels (4 bolt vs. 5). Good source if you don't already have one : https://www.easternmarine.com/axles

    Whatcha-muh-call-it

I know what you're talking about. It's not a hard top. There's no fabric used on a hard top. They're all aluminum or maybe fiberglass. Maybe a "convertible top"? Soft top? If your fabric shop did actually use "Sunbrella" for your new cover, it should have lasted 10 years easily, usually even...

    1987 johnson v4 110 cyl 4 not running

    1987 johnson v4 110 cyl 4 not running

Here's something to think about. If the crankcase pressures for this cylinder aren't up to par, the compression of the down coming piston couldn't pack the cylinder properly, and the result would be low(er) compression - especially as compared to the other cylinders. Point being, I'm thinking...

    Getting 1st Covid/Pfizer shot romorrow

I'm 70, 6'2" and over 300lbs, so yes, for a year, just a little concerned..... First shot was a non-event, but a huge relief as everybody was dealing with unorganized attempts to pass out the shots hear in Fl. Finally WAL MART to the rescue! 2nd shot, nothing related to pain at all, but the...
