Steel OMC 3 gallon tank issue

My classic woodie has a dual fuel line. It's period correct. With new lines and gaskets it runs like a new engine. If I put a fuel pump in the old girl and then showed her at a sanctioned meet, I would lose so many points that she wouldn't even place. So far, 2 first places and a "Best Lyman...

    Tackle storage under seat

There will be a maker's logo somewhere on the assembly. Contact the manufacturer. Most likely you will need to replace the whole unit. I have one just like it on my Whaler. Really robust. I can't imagine what it would take to break it.

Can’t get my engine cover off!!

It may have been seated but the sealing gasket surely wasn't. THAT's why the mice got in. Bad gasket. All fuel lines, electric wires, etc. surely are toast. Hope you didn't pay too much for it.

Can’t get my engine cover off!!

Doesn't look the the cover is on. It's above its seated position. I would guess the lever is jammed with the cover out of place. Wiggle the cover while moving the lever.

    New 20ft Jon Boat

The word "Boat" is a generalization. Jon and semi-V are very specific terms for a very specific type of boat. That's where the confusion comes in. Back in the 1960's and '70's you could buy a bare boat. The industry has changed. Now only package deals are available from the major...

    Sealant Around Center Console

Are you sure it's not a caulk but rather a rubber gasket?

    1970 Sea Star 15'

It may be fiberglass, but it is covering the wood underneath. Soft spots indicate that the guts of the boat are totally rotten. Eventually, the structure will not be safe enough to use. Continued use can crack the hull and the boat would likely sink. That's a hazard to any passengers. The...

    What is this thing?

Drain covers are supposed to be chrome or SS clam shells that are not only functional but attractive. If that was on my boat it would be ripped off in a heartbeat. Looks Rube Goldberg to me.

    Boat Top W/Windows

A convertible top with side curtains and an aft curtain would fit the bill. You can even have a "window" of isinglass fabricated in the aft curtain so you can even see behind you. Optionally, a bimini with the same options that also includes a front isinglass curtain. I have a set of those...

    Boat Top W/Windows

That's a 33 year old boat. No parts available any more. You need a custom shop.

Awfull time launch & retrieve roller trailer

Vewwy Intererwesting.... As I previously stated, the black keel rollers on my trailer were replaced after about 20 years. I replaced them with poly self-centering rollers. Good choice. No kidding, in this day and age poly is the ONLY way to go. Many have commented about the crappy black...

Awfull time launch & retrieve roller trailer

Well, yes and no. You pump up your trailer wheel bearings periodically. Inevitably, some of the petroleum leaks out into the water (yeah, yeah, only a few molecules each time). Remember the old Engineer's Proclamation: * If its supposed to turn, lubricate it.

Awfull time launch & retrieve roller trailer

It was mentioned to check if your rollers are free-wheeling. When I check mine they spin a few extra turns after I let go. That's "free". If I rotated them and they turned but were not free, then lube would have been the answer. Glad you figured it out.

    Trailer Maintenance

Check tire pressure and light function. Everything else should have been done the previous Fall: * check tire date code and replace over Winter if over 5 years old, and/or if the sidewalls are cracked. * Lube wheel bearings. * Check for rust or other damage and repair accordingly. * Check...

Awfull time launch & retrieve roller trailer

Fresh water and garage kept and my black rollers didn't need to be replaced for 20+ years. I agree the poly rollers last a lot longer. But if kept in the elements I personally don't know how much longer. Boat dealers are out to make money, and thus will sell you cheapie junk to make the...

Awfull time launch & retrieve roller trailer

If the bow stop is hitting the bow eye, that should be an easy fix. Regardless, it wouldn't take much oomph to push the boat back an inch. Look at the roller bunk arms and the side bunks. Is ANY part touching the hull. Look at EVERY roller. Flat spots? Is EVERY roller free wheeling with no...

    Best hitch protector?

THAT's the key. Most people just don't use common sense. Most of the trailers in the lot have no security. Put a simple lock on yours and you won't have a problem.

    Best hitch protector?

If I am getting robbed I will run away. If I believe my life is in danger, I'll pull out my gun and stop the threat. But I guarandamtee you the guy won't survive. I would rather have to hire a lawyer to assist me than have my family pay for an undertaker.
