Is this the aluminum head 470.

A 470 has a nice torque increase over the 3.0L... but, the known shortcomings would make me more than wary. Boats are already expensive and hard to find parts for. The 470 is at minimum a big learning curve to make run and keep running. Cannot recommend it, especially one with unknown issues.

Is this the aluminum head 470.

Says the guy who just finished a six month swap from a 3.7L to a 4.3L. hehe

For discussion, mercruiser v6 , rochester, edelbrock

Anyone one else I'd suggest a plugged up flash arrestor.

Is this the aluminum head 470.

So you already bought the Apollo and now looking for best path. If the engine is good, install away. You will be learning all the gotchas with the 470 soon. Water pump seals, headgaskets, and so on.

Is this the aluminum head 470.

Personally, unless I had a reason to prefer the 470, I would avoid it in favor of a generic Chevy powered boat. Realizing you like the boat itself, the one solace is there are always a ton of used boats on sale from highly motivated sellers. Chevy is good in that for all but the 3.0L 4 banger...

    Alpha one Gen 2 u-joints

The list in the stickies is for internals, which is what I have on my drive. Unfortunately I've never seen a list for external clip crosses. They are absolutely cross over capable.... nothing at all special about the u-joints themselves - the crosses Merc and Sierra sell are not made by either...

    Alpha one Gen 2 u-joints

Install greasable ones. Running in water wrecked them.

    Driveshaft Gear Rotational Torque

I keep bringing my thoughts back to how elegant this solution is. I don't have a problem with how BobMaio and I did it, with a splitter. Next time I am going to do muc's method. Rick

Help with 5.7L front motor mount bracket location.

The vertical edge has no purpose. It gets ignored. I just made it narrow enough to fit behind the angle. Yes, you nailed it. Add the fiber washer to the 4 inches.

    Running lean after engine swap

The springs work against vacuum. When you open the throttle up vacuum goes down - quickly. The springs hold the needles up when the vacuum decreases just a little bit, the springs are pulled down when running first quarter of the throttle after initial drop in vacuum, then vacuum goes up and...

Help with 5.7L front motor mount bracket location.

Bam. Called to the principal's office again. Ok. Really easier than it looks. You are correct that there is a difference between the ear on the transom plate and the centerline of the motor. In all my measurements I called it a quarter inch and that worked out. In the end, the easiest...

Drive removed for the 1st time, gimbal aligment inspection

Here's the Thread. I used the Moog crosses in my '93 Alpha 1 Gen 2. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/u-joint-part-number.235294/

Drive removed for the 1st time, gimbal aligment inspection

I just used NAPA automotive u-joints. Roughly $12 each. Ain't no way on this green earth I'm payin $200 for a silly u-joint.

Boat Hard to Start After a Long Sit

You can connect red to purple/yellow. Purple yellow goes direct to the pump, red is from the battery. I do it right at the starter.

    Driveshaft Gear Rotational Torque

Just separate a little. Nothing but cranking on the nut to be gained by pulling it apart.

    Running lean after engine swap

I don't know. Not had any issue with flooding at end of a run or after parking. Have had the motor seem to load up once in a great while. A little extra throttle for a few seconds seems to clear it up.

    PCV Question

There is no PCV unless your hose is connected to VACUUM. muc is correct. If the hose is connected to an open tube at the flash arrestor it is just venting. You cannot use a PCV valve unless it is connected under the carburetor to vacuum side of intake.

    Running lean after engine swap

I'd worry less. If you were pre-igniting it would blast all those deposits right off. Go ahead and try a little richer secondaries, but don't worry so much.
