Engine removal with boat in the water

Seems you already found the answer you were looking for. I'd hate to try it with a 4.3L. Can't imagine the smoke coming out the ears with a 7.4L. And note, when all finished, impossible to know if you have alignment. But can do it all over again and replace the coupler. Easy peasy, right?

Mercruiser bogs only once or twice and then runs fine

Adjust choke and check that accelerator pump is functioning properly. I’d consider kitting the carb if it continues.

Engine removal with boat in the water

Quicksilver is the name that Merc slaps on stuff they license or make themselves. In this case, that is almost 99.9% certain to be an ACDelco starter made for GM and repackaged by Merc for you. I am usually fairly loath to purchase stuff from Merc, made for Merc, by standard automotive sources...

Winterizing engine & drive removed from boat

Yup. Looks good once you pull the pump hose.

Engine removal with boat in the water

There actually isn't any such thing as a 'Mercruiser' starter. Merc don't make em. But your point is valid. Quality matters back there when a miss costs so much. Best of luck on your repair. Rick

Gear position when assembling SEI 116 Sterndrive

That is correct. Everything has to be aligned. It would also be possible to attach upper to lower in reverse if you knew right where all the shift shafts belonged, but it is correct to align upper shift shaft fore and aft, forward position wile lower is locked into forward gear - which means the...

    Warm Start issues... HELP!!!

Can't disagree with AD, tpenfield and Scott. 2-3 minutes is a fraction of the time my drain back issue took to appear. half hour, or a couple days, yeah. I'd have to go with something happening directly to the fuel in the carburetor to cause this. The MOST often needing to be redone procedure on...

How tight is too tight when trying to spin motor by hand

Might also do a compression check next time you have plugs out. Love to know what the base condition of the motor is before making a comment on what's next.

Correct ventilation in engine compartment of runabout

Made me laugh Ted. I'm always digging around the battery box or hydraulic pump for seldom used stuff that fell out of my side panel gunnel storage into the engine bay.

    Warm Start issues... HELP!!!

I had the same kind of issue. Adding a one way check valve between fuel separator and fuel pump resolved what I figured was fuel draining back to the tank. As per Scott's answer in post #2, the anti-syphon valve is supposed to do that - I should have probably just replaced that instead.

    1996 4.3 Mercruiser idle sputter

If the compression gauge is accurate, then the numbers are pretty bad. A brand new motor will give 155 on a good gauge. Higher than that would require high compression pistons and usually require high octane fuel. Anything under 100 is generally considered worn out.

    Lost all my oil...again

That's where mine is mounted. I used a steel 2 inch nipple, and a machined Tee.

    Broke Plug '95 4.3

Always interesting to easyout a brass fitting. The fitting is soft, so you want to be gentle and not just expand the fitting ever tighter into the block threads. At the same time you need the easyout in tight enough to bite. I mostly use the spiral type and would probably grab one good for...

    Running lean after engine swap

nola mike Scott06 I'll have to concur with Scott as well. I put new plugs in start of this season. Last time I ran the motor it was for a 100 mile cruise up and back all at midrange 35-38 MPH. As I mentioned earlier, I wanted to pull a plug and just see what they look like. Kind of just like...

Possible oil leak near fuel pump bolt

Some pumps require spacers for a given application. Some pumps may fit more than one engine block by virtue of the spacer. You can confirm the fit with some measurements of the rod, or pump arm if that is the case, when the motor is turned over. Have to be careful deleting the spacer as the pump...

Oil Pressure Switch not wired, Fuel pump runs constantly

Not stock, since it has the added relay, which is the best way to do the pump power.

    Running lean after engine swap

Need a headset: Do one thing at a time. Need to read the calibration manual so you know how the 1409 works, then go after the specific things that are noticeably lean or rich. I would strongly recommend you take this in a organized fashion. FLoat level, fuel pressure, primary jets, springs...
