Ah so that explains kits with and without main bearings! so that brings a new question; how does one determine wear on main roller bearings?

Temporarily disconnecting VRO - will it damage oil pump?

Can we come back to this? what does the dealer do to verify operation? Part of what I’m interested in is that I’ve heard VRO’s are cleaner running. Running both seems like a bad idea. (Yes, I know, if I’m so concerned about polluting, I should go 4 stroke...I’m getting there slowly)

    Considering rebuilding 1990 Johnson 70hp - questions

I have a running 70 hp with a worn out powerhead. Compression is so bad, I’m surprised it runs. I’ve noticed the crankcase has been opened before which makes me question why. I can only assume it was to be rebuilt once before. Would it be opened for anything else? in any case, because I’m...

And solid floors. Rotten floors will allow twist i believe. but don’t worry, that’s only 5/8” plywood and your choice of coverage. I prefer nautolex for fishing reasons. @Saxist, nice grab, you’ve got a good set up to start with. Lots of parts for those old motors still around

    1987 Islander

Great find. I really like the colour scheme. I’d like one with the outboard bracket someday. Where is the fuel talk located? If it is at the transom, would it be feasible to move it forward?

Curved windshield indicates 60’s to me. I bet you’re right. (1966) Does it look like it’s had other motors mounted on it? Dealer stickers on both motor and boat?

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

With the changing weather patterns, I want to be prepared for anything. Global warming IS a thing. do you recall how many rivets you used above the spray rail, and below the waterline? (Aside from re-riveting the staggered rivet pattern at the chine) I’m thinking a 4 (quad pattern) on the...

    1990 and 1995 Evinrude/Johnson 50/60/70 interchangeability?

is there anything superior on the 1995 models over the 1990s? Ignition carb systems etc. as mentioned I feel the 1990 Fly wheel to be superior, but correct me if I’m wrong That I have to switch over the stator coil and everything. And if so, are the 1990 components as good? Ultimately I want to...

    1978 sea nymph wrs16 restoration

Your boat is similar to Starcrafts. There’s lots of rebuild threads there. Some use pour in floatation foam, some use hard extruded styrofoam or Styrofoam SM as they call it around here. Don’t use the white beadboard styro as it gets waterlogged and can disintegrate. Personally I think pour in...

    1990 and 1995 Evinrude/Johnson 50/60/70 interchangeability?

Guys, what do you think of this idea? I’ve got a semi decent 1995 50 hp Evinrude triple and a worn out 1990 70 hp Johnny motor. i was saving the 70 for a rainy day power head rebuild but it looks like someone has been in the motor once before. so not sure if it’s a good rebuild candidate...
