Wow, that deer trashed things. Amazing they can pop your air bags. Bummer.

    Pulled Alpha 1 last night...

You have the same drive model as mine. It will require a clamp on the bearing pack. And you will require a torque indicator wrench (I got this one) and a regular 1/2 inch drive torque wrench. Have to get 200 ft/lbs on the big retainer nut when you reassemble..

    First time winterizing 4.3

I had that problem with my newly installed 4.3. I picked up a inline drain, Merc part #861505 that Merc added to later models like the MPI 5.0L, cut the hose a couple inches transom side of the PS cooler and installed it. Now I can just pull the little blue plug (which I had to order separately)...

Water leaking from Lower Alpha Unit

Welcome to iBoats! First thing, you should never run your engine with the drive up like that. It ends up tearing up the u-joints to have them so far out of range. The CV Joint can beat up the bellhousing as well. Your video doesn't show, but is the normal amount of water coming out of the...

    Kicker and mercruiser fuel sharing

Joe, I used a 1/4 pipe thread bulkhead fitting and then screwed a 3/8th nipple on the inside and a street el with a quick disconnect fitting for the line on the outside. I also ended up adding a check valve between my fuel filer and electric pump on the main engine to keep from draining back...

    almost lost my wheel....

Here's what to work on. If you have some emory clothe a little polish of the seal surface looks appropriate. Use something like an 8 inch bastard file on the outer bearing surface.

    3.7 to 4.3 swap?

Mike, a couple reasons. First was, I had a complete 4.3L Vortec, Alpha1 Gen2, power package sitting there on a fallen apart deal. Second, my (little) 17 foot boat came with 2 engine package options, the 3.0L or the upgrade to the 4.3L. So I knew it could handle the 4.3. It was a close fit, but a...

5.7L bravo 1 Water in cylinders 1 and 3 after overheat need advice

I went through the same progression. Wasn't really comfortable with an electric fuel pump going into my boat. Seemed like one more failure point. However, when I look at my family's vehicles around my yard, realized the only one with a mechanical fuel pump was my 'mid-life crisis' Jeep that had...

    About engine mounts - 3.0 to 4.3

I just made up peanut butter and laminated 3/4 inch plywood to make my mounts. I can't see a need for hardwood. Hardwoods usually rot just as fast as anything else if you let it get wet. Don't let it get wet, do final install of the lag bolts with a liberal application of 5200 to seal them...

What specialty tools do I need? 3.0 - 4.3 swap

Bondo is right. I didn't have that option at the time I built my mounts, my motor was off getting machine work done. No need to do a jig, but it was really nice to be able to quickly check heights as I built it up. That jig just slid under the piece of angle iron in this photo. You can see the...

What specialty tools do I need? 3.0 - 4.3 swap

I built a jig to determine and build my motor mounts. Basically I would install the transom plate. Lay a piece of angle iron across the rear motor mounts on the transom plate. Have to remove the leather pads that the ears on the flywheel cover sit on. The forward motor mounts are within an 1/8th...

1994 Seapro 190DC with 3.0l mercruiser with no power

Maximum picture size is 700K. You need to size your pictures down to post them directly on this site. If you have EST ignition then to set the timing you need a jumper that turns off the advance so you can set timing. Here's a pic of anEST cap: The right hand connector goes to the shift...

    SE106 on 1975 Mer sterndrive?

Got a gentleman who has a 1975 Mercruiser 140. He lost his sterndrive. He is interested in using my year old SE106 Alpha1. From what I understand it should work, he will only have to change the yoke to the short one off his old sterndrive, both are 17 spline. Mine is 9 3/8 his is 7 1/2 inch...

Transducer placement on Sea Ray 175 Sport

You'll end up running the cable along with your shift cable and wiring harness back from the dash - or same from the passenger side if you are mounting there. It is always a major PITA routing a transducer wire. You have to thread it from engine end up, and the end is fairly large. Lots of wire...

    Steering help! New boat owner

Boats use the same power steering pump as cars and pickups. If you have a pump, you have power steering. Your description makes me think you do have power steering and it isn't working right. Behind the motor is where the steering cable comes to the transom plate and steers the boat. If you...
