Which intake gasket type alum manifold

Going through a 4.3 that was updated to Vortec heads and Performa intake. Had to pull the motor down, even though a new motor the PO allowed water to get in, one cylinder is pitted enough to bore the engine - a crime - brand new pistons, rings, oil pump, intake, heads and he left it out with...

Shift shaft seal lip up or down?

Going through a recently purchased GenII leg. Started with a pressure test since there was oil around the shift shaft and teensy coating on the water pump housing (different source, obviously). Air leaks around the shift shaft unless the shaft and rubber sleeve are pressed firmly down onto seal...

    Power/OutDrive Swap - 3.0L Alpha1 to 4.3L GenII

Howdy all, I own a '91 with a 3L Alpha1, and it needs the motor gone through - rings, valves, that kind of stuff. Runs OK but after 25 years feeling its age. I purchased cheap a nearly identical model boat that is a '93 with a 4.3L and a GenII. The boat is shot with severely cracked gel coat...

    Good slip = Bad tach?

Just finished up break in hours on a new 1.94 ratio SEI Alpha 1 drive on my 3 Liter. Finally got to go to WOT. Hate to say it, but I got TOO good numbers, if that is possible :^) Indicated RPMs 4500 GPS Speed 35 MPH Wheel Pitch 17 inch Ratio 1.94 This gives me in the neighborhood of 5-6% slip...

Try and post pictures. I have tried this a dozen times, the reply by GA looks to have made it possible.

    Bluewater Riviera 18

This is a repost. I could not do anything with the original - not even post a reply to it. Some database corruption. Hopefully iBoats has someone working on the forum and fixing the problems. Bluewater Riviera 18 project So, I will either need the assistance of folks on this forum...

    Bluewater Riviera 18 project

So, I will either need the assistance of folks on this forum or of a psychiatrist over the next year. I find it had to believe I went out of my way to BUY a project boat. My one saving grace with this is I have a 14 year old son who needs a lot of supervised shop work and desperately wants this...

'90 3.0 rough idle - vacuum gauge interpretation

Bought a 1990 boat with a 3.0 Merc a year ago. With a lot of assistance here have fixed repaired adjusted and made my way through many of the systems. Engine history is unknown. In general runs pretty decent. The engine has used no oil after a couple hundred hours use this summer. Looking inside...

    Installed Smart Tabs for wakeboarding

My kid wanted to wakeboard. No problemo, right? Have a 17 foot open bow 3.0 L I/O ski boat that I stripped out and made into a wideopen 3 seat fish and ski with nice captains chairs. Installed a deck in the open bow with live well in the middle. No tower, but that can come later if he needs some...

    3.0L plugs - look cold

'90 3.0L with the distributorless ignition system. The plugs that came with it when I bought it were NGK V-power YR5's. They look a bit cold to me in appearance after running them for a whole year. However, they are hotter than the NGK BR6FS that are the recommended stock NGK plug. I went ahead...

Alpha 1 - Replaced bellows, gaskets, still water in drive bellows and shift compartment

I am using bellows adhesive on the bellows, not the internal square o-ring. I have never ever seen an instruction that recommended putting bellows adhesive on an internal part. Besides, that square o-ring does not keep water out of the drive bellows or the lower shift linkage.

Alpha 1 - Replaced bellows, gaskets, still water in drive bellows and shift compartment

Alpha 1 - Replaced bellows, gaskets, still water in drive bellows and shift compartment I am kind of losing my mind on this. Short version: found water in bellows during last winterization, replaced the bellows, gimbal bearing, ujoint crosses, seals, and while there, the water pump and sundry...

Seal part number - Alpha 1

Hi all. Need the right part number - the exploded parts diagram shows 2 seals. Location - output shaft on the upper gear box. The lowest seal that is right in front of the water pocket. I was replacing a half melted pocket and noticed a piece of the seal spring hanging in there. Diagrams appear...

Honda 10hp 4 stroke outboard throttle control question

Re: Honda 10hp 4 stroke outboard throttle control question Been a while since you posted. There is a remote control kit for these motors that Honda makes, runs in the low $50's. It is a bracket and a replacement shifter that connects to a cable instead of the hand operated one that is stock...

    Gooey bellows

'90 3.0 Alpha 1 Gen 1. Bought boat mid summer, took it fishing a bunch. Everything worked fine, ran like a clock. I am now going through everything to both winterize and find out what is marginal. My first time inside this outdrive. Been reading this site for a while, and have all the manuals...

    post purchase inspection 3L Alpha1

Hi all, After a 35 year boating hiatus, I bought a boat. '90 Bluewater, 3L Gen 1 Alpha 1. A nice light 17 foot ski/runabout to turn into a fishing boat. I pulled the interior out of it, sold the ski boat seats and redid with those nicely priced iBoat Tempress Helm seats, and added one moveable...
